Algernon "Alge" Crumpler
Algernon Darius Crumpler (; born December 23, 1977) is a former American football tight end who played in the National Football League (NFL) for ten seasons. He was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the second round of the 2001 NFL Draft. He played college football for North Carolina. Crumpler now works as an analyst for the ACC Network. Crumpler also played for the Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots. He is a four-time Pro Bowl selection. Early years Crumpler attended New Hanover High School in Wilmington, North Carolina and was a letterman in football and track and field. In football, he started as a tight end and as a linebacker, and as a senior, he was an All-Midwest 4-A Conference selection. Algernon H. "Al" Lee (1873 – 1954) was an American socialist politician and educator. In addition to serving as a member of the New York City Council during World War I, Lee was one of three co-authors of the controversial anti-war resolution at the 1917 St. Louis emergency convention of the Socialist Party of America. He is best remembered as the Director of Education at the Rand School of Social Science for 35 years. Major-General Algernon Philip Yorke Langhorne, CB, DSO, MC (18 July 1882 – 28 November 1945) was an officer in the British Army. Early life and family Born in Wentworth, Langhorne was the son of Reverend John Langhorne, and Frances Annesley Yorke and was educated at Marlborough College, Wiltshire, England. Algernon Kingscote
Algernon Robert Fitzhardinge "Algy" Kingscote (3 December 1888 – 21 December 1964) was a British tennis player, who won the Men's Singles event at the Australasian Championships in 1919. Kingscote also competed in the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris. He was born in Bangalore, India, in 1888. Tennis career Algernon Kingscote learned playing tennis on the courts of the Château-d'Œx Club in Switzerland, where he won numerous championships. Admiral Sir Algernon Frederick Rous de Horsey (25 July 1827 – 22 October 1922) was a Royal Navy officer, appointed aide-de-camp to Queen Victoria. He distinguished himself in Canada during the Fenian raids, and was thanked in Parliament for suppressing riots in Jamaica. Early life De Horsey was the son of Spencer de Horsey, of Great Glemham Suffolk, and Lady Louise, a daughter of the first Earl of Stradbroke. His only sister was the Countess of Cardigan, whose reminiscences caused a scandal when they were published. Naval career De Horsey joined the Royal Navy in 1840 and served on the coast of Syria later that year. He received the Naval General Service Medal and bar for his service in Syria as well as a medal for his service in Acre given by the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. Algernon Herbert
Algernon Herbert (12 July 1792 – 11 June 1855) was an English antiquary. Biography Herbert was the sixth and youngest son of Henry Herbert, 1st Earl of Carnarvon by Elizabeth Alicia Maria, elder daughter of Charles Wyndham, 2nd Earl of Egremont. He was educated at Eton from 1805 onwards, and progressed to Christ Church, Oxford, where he matriculated on 23 October 1810. He went on to study at Exeter College, and graduated B.A. in 1813 and M.A. in 1825. He was elected a fellow of Merton College in 1814; became sub-warden in 1826, and dean in 1828. On 27 November 1818 he was called to the bar at the Inner Temple. Herbert was the author of some remarkable works replete with abstruse learning. Admiral Sir Algernon Charles Fieschi Heneage (19 March 1833 – 10 June 1915) was a Royal Navy officer who went on to be Commander-in-Chief, The Nore. Dubbed "Pompo," he was known for his immaculate dress and his white-glove inspections of the ships under his command. Early life Born at Arthingworth, Northamptonshire, Heneage was the son of Charles Fieschi Heneage, by his marriage to Louisa Elizabeth Graves, a daughter of Thomas Graves, 2nd Baron Graves. Algernon Graves (London 1845–1922 London) was a British art historian and art dealer, who specialised in the documentation of the exhibition and sale of works of art. He created reference sources that began the modern discipline of provenance research. Early life Algernon Graves was born in Pall Mall, Westminster, the son of Henry Graves (1806–1892) a publisher of prints, and Mary Squire (d. 1871). Graves studied German in Bonn, Germany, before working for his father's company Henry Graves & Co., researching for catalogues that the company published. The Gissing family of Great Britain included several noted writers, Olympic competitors, and teachers. George Gissing Algernon Gissing Algernon Fred Gissing (25 November 1860 (Wakefield, West Yorkshire) – 5 February 1937) was an English novelist and biographer. He was the younger brother of George Gissing. He wrote 25 novels, two collections of short stories and several pieces of travel writing.
