Alfredo Romero (activist)
Alfredo Romero Mendoza (born 7 January 1969) is a Venezuelan lawyer, human rights activist and executive director of the non-governmental organization Foro Penal. He received the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award in 2017. Career Alfredo Romero graduated as a lawyer in the Andrés Bello Catholic University in 1991, studied a master's degree in Latin American studies in Georgetown University in 1994 and afterwards a master's degree in financial public law in the University of London in 1997. Between 2001 and 2002 he was rapporteur of the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Tribunal of Justice and in 2002 he founded the civil association VIVE (''Víctimas Venezolanas de Violaciones a los Derechos Humanos'', in Spanish), representing the April 11, 2002 Llaguno Overpass events victims, which afterwards merged with the non-governmental organization Foro Penal. Caracas
Caracas (, ), officially Santiago de León de Caracas, abbreviated as CCS, is the capital and largest city of Venezuela, and the center of the Metropolitan Region of Caracas (or Greater Caracas). Gonzalo Himiob Santomé (born October 5, 1969) is a Venezuelan lawyer, writer and activist. He is a founding member of the non-governmental organization Foro Penal and is currently its vice-president. Biography Gonzalo was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He graduated as a lawyer from the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (UCAB) in 1992, specializing in criminal science at the UCAB in 1996 and at the Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV) in 2011. He was a university professor at the UCAB from 1996 to 2016 and has been a professor at the UCV since 2000. Himiob was also founder of the legal office Himiob, Romero y Asociados, being coordinator of the criminal and criminology area since 1993, and since 2001 he is an associate researcher of the Legal Research Center of the UCAB. Liliana Ortega (born 1965) is a Venezuelan professor, and human rights lawyer and advocate. Her work as a human rights defender has earned her several awards, including the Ordre national du Mérite.
