Alf Scott-Hansen Sr.
Alf Scott-Hansen (10 November 1870 – 16 September 1936) was a Norwegian engineer and civil servant. Personal life He was born in Leith, Scotland as a son of priest in the Norwegian Church Abroad (''Sjømannskirken''), Andreas Michael Hansen (1834–1901) and Simonine Stephansen (1840–1925). He was a brother of Commander Sigurd Scott-Hansen. He was a first cousin of Sam Eyde on the maternal side. In 1898 he married consul's daughter Lalla Wiborg (1869-1953). They had the son Alf Scott-Hansen (1903–1961), a film director who was once married to actress and singer, Wenche Foss (1917-2011). Career He finished his secondary education in 1888, and graduated from the Dresden University of Technology in 1903. Leith
Leith (; gd, Lìte) is a port area in the north of the city of Edinburgh, Scotland, founded at the mouth of the Water of Leith. 1914 Jubilee Exhibition
The 1914 Jubilee Exhibition took place in Kristiania, Norway, from May 5 to October 11, 1914. It marked the centennial anniversary of the 1814 constitution and focused on industry and agriculture. The main location was the grounds of Frogner Manor (the site of the current Frogner Park), in addition to a subsection on shipping at Skarpsno at Frognerkilen. The exhibition opened on 15 May, and was closed on 11 October 1914. The total number of visitors was more than 1.5 million. On 11 October, the final day, more than 100,000 visitors visited the exhibition. Planning The idea for the exhibition is credited to architect Torolf Prytz, in a proposal to the board of in 1907. Prytz became chairman of the planning committee, and later also chairman of the exhibition. Various location alternatives were discussed, including Hovedøya, but it was finally decided on Frogner. ''Merkantilt biografisk leksikon: hvem er hvem i næringslivet?'' ( en, Mercantile Biographical Encyclopedia: Who is Who in the Enterprise?) was a Norwegian-language encyclopedia published by Yrkesforlaget in 1935. It featured approximately 10,000 short biographical entries for Norwegian businesspeople, and was edited by Einar Hoffstad (1894–1959). It was printed by Grøndahl & Søns Boktrykkeri. The purpose of the encyclopedia was to "remedy the need to know something about the individuals one is trading with". The entries contain little genealogical information, and the parents of the portrayed businesspeople are not included. Abbreviations are used extensively to save space and money. The editor, Einar Hoffstad, stated in the foreword of the encyclopedia that it was not a parallel to the '' Who's Who'' reference works, although the title could imply that. A/S Holmenkolbanen was a company that owned and operated part of the Oslo Tramway and Oslo Metro in Norway from 1898 until 1975 when services were taken over by the majority owner Oslo Sporveier. Holmenkolbanen opened the Holmenkoll Line in 1898, and expanded it to become the first Nordic underground railway in 1928. The company took over operations of the Smestad Line in 1933, the Sognsvann Line in 1934. The company was merged into Oslo Sporveier in 1992. History The company was founded on 17 February 1896 by H.
