Alexandre Étard
Alexandre Léon Étard was a French chemist. He was born on 5 January 1852 in Alençon, and died on 1 May 1910 in Paris. Étard was a preparer at the Charles Adolphe Wurtz, Wurtz Laboratory at École Pratique des Hautes Études, and became a member of the Société de Chimie Industrielle in 1875. He studied at the University of Paris, Sorbonne, and earned a Doctor of Science, Doctorate in Physical Sciences in 1880. Étard discovered the oxidation chemical reaction, reaction of methyl groups linked to aromaticity, aromatic rings or to heterocyclic compound, heterocycles using chromyl chloride, known as the Étard reaction. Alençon (, , ; nrf, Alençoun) is a commune in Normandy, France, capital of the Orne department. It is situated west of Paris. Alençon belongs to the intercommunality of Alençon (with 52,000 people). Chromyl Chloride
Chromyl chloride is the inorganic compound with the formula CrO2Cl2. It is a reddish brown compound that is a volatile liquid at room temperature, which is unusual for transition metal complexes.
