Alexander Sung
Alexander Sung (born 1947 in Tianjin) is a Chinese harpsichordist and pianist. His family moved to Hong Kong before the 1949 Chinese Revolution where he attended Pui Ching Middle School. After studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, under Heinz Scholz, the brother of Robert Scholz, Alexander Sung studied harpsichord under Isolde Ahlgrimm and piano under Richard Hauser in Vienna. In 1971 he won fifth prize for harpsichord at the competition Musica Antiqua Bruges and fourth prize for harpsichord at the 1972 International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition. He taught harpsichord and piano at Virginia Commonwealth University, the University of Richmond, and Soochow University in Taiwan. He currently teaches and guest lectures in Taipei and Hong Kong. Harpsichord
A harpsichord ( it, clavicembalo; french: clavecin; german: Cembalo; es, clavecín; pt, cravo; nl, klavecimbel; pl, klawesyn) is a musical instrument played by means of a keyboard. This activates a row of levers that turn a trigger mechanism that plucks one or more strings with a small plectrum made from quill or plastic. The strings are under tension on a soundboard, which is mounted in a wooden case; the soundboard amplifies the vibrations from the strings so that the listeners can hear it. Like a pipe organ, a harpsichord may have more than one keyboard manual, and even a pedal board. Harpsichords may also have stop buttons which add or remove additional octaves. Some harpsichords may have a buff stop, which brings a strip of buff leather or other material in contact with the strings, muting their sound to simulate the sound of a plucked lute. A pianist ( , ) is an individual musician who plays the piano. Pui Ching Middle School
The Pui Ching Middle Schools () is a system of Baptist secondary schools first founded in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China and later Hong Kong and Macau. Located at Peizheng Road in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou Pui Ching Middle School is a state-owned full-time public school with its campus covering an area of nearly 70,000 square meters. The school has 36 classes for senior grade and 26 classes for the junior grade. There are 230 teachers, among whom 66 people are senior teachers. Isolde Ahlgrimm
Isolde Ahlgrimm (31 July 1914 in Vienna – 11 October 1995 in Vienna) was an Austrian harpsichordist and fortepianist. In 1975 she was awarded the Austrian Gold Medal. Musica Antiqua Bruges
The MA Festival Brugge, short for the festival Musica Antiqua Bruges in Bruges, Belgium, is a festival of early music and historically informed performances, started in 1960. International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition
The International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition (german: Internationaler Bach Wettbewerb Leipzig, links=no) is a music competition in Leipzig, Germany, held by the Bach-Archiv Leipzig. It was founded in 1950 and was held every four years from 1964 to 1996 with five subjects and is now held every two years with three changing subjects violin / baroque violin, piano, harpsichord or in the fields of voice, cello / baroque violoncello and organ.
