Alexander Matturri
Alexander J. Matturri (November 28, 1913 – January 14, 1992) was an American Republican Party politician and jurist who served in the New Jersey State Senate from 1968 to 1972. Early life Matturri was born on November 28, 1913, in Newark, New Jersey, one of eight children born to Nicholas and Imaculata Matturri. He attended Central High School, the University of Virginia, and Rutgers University Law School. He practiced law in Newark. Candidate for U.S. Congress In 1952, Matturi was the Republican candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in New Jersey's 10th district. He was seeking to unseat Peter W. Hugh Joseph Addonizio (January 31, 1914 – February 2, 1981) was an American Democratic Party politician who was sentenced to prison for corruption. He was the 33rd Mayor of Newark, New Jersey, from 1962 to 1970, and a U.S. Congressman from 1949 to 1962. Early life and education Born in Newark to an Italian family, Addonizio attended West Side High School and played quarterback at Saint Benedict's Preparatory School. John Pershing Caufield (September 21, 1918 – August 24, 1986) was an American Democratic Partypolitician and public safety official from Newark, New Jersey. He served 24 years as the Fire Director for the Newark Fire Department and seven years in the New Jersey Senate. Biography Caufield was born on September 21, 1918, in Newark, the seventh of thirteen children, to James Caufield, a fireman, and Louisa Doll. He attended Sacred Heart School in Vailsburg and Seton Hall Prep before enlisting in the United States Navy following the Pearl Harbor attack. He married Anne Elizabeth Walsh before his discharge in 1945 and had nine children with her. They lived in the Vailsburg neighborhood of Newark.
