Alex Raisbeck
Alexander Galloway Raisbeck (26 December 1878 – 12 March 1949) was a Scottish professional football player and manager. After playing junior football for Larkhall Thistle, he was signed by Hibernian where he made his professional debut at the age of 17. Despite playing only ten matches in his first season, he was chosen to represent a Scottish League XI in a match against their Irish counterparts. In 1898, he joined English First Division side Stoke on a short term deal at the end of the 1897–98 season, playing in four league matches and four Football League test matches to help the club avoid relegation. His form attracted attention from other clubs and he signed for Liverpool in May 1898. He quickly established himself in the first-team and was appointed club captain after two seasons at the age of 21, leading the side to their first ever league title in 1901. Scottish Junior Football Association
The Scottish Junior Football Association (SJFA) is an affiliated national association of the Scottish Football Association and is the governing body for the junior grade of football in Scotland. The term "junior" refers to the level of football played, not the age of the players. The closest equivalent terminology would be non-League football in England, the difference being that junior football in Scotland was not similarly integrated into its football league system until 2021. Founded in 1886, the SJFA is responsible for disciplinary matters within the grade, certain player registration procedures and organising the annual Scottish Junior Cup. Andrew Raisbeck
Andrew Brown Raisbeck (10 April 1881 – 23 October 1958) was a Scottish professional footballer of the early 1900s who played for clubs including Hibernian and Hull City. Career Born in Slamannan (then in Stirlingshire) but raised in a mining community near Cambuslang in South Lanarkshire, Raisback began his football career as a teenager with Larkhall Thistle, alongside elder brothers Bill (later of Clyde, Sunderland and Falkirk) and Alex (later captain of Liverpool, Partick Thistle and Scotland). In 1900 he followed the route into the professional level taken by Alex and joined Hibernian, making 11 Scottish Football League appearances for the side which finished 3rd in the table. The following year he joined Dundee but did not make a league appearance, spending the end of the campaign with Queens Park Rangers in England. Bill Raisbeck
William Raisbeck (22 December 1875 – 2 November 1946) was a Scottish professional association football player at the turn of the twentieth century. Career Born in Wallacestone, Stirlingshire but raised in a mining community near Cambuslang in South Lanarkshire, Raisbeck began his career with Larkhall Thistle before going on to Hibernian (no league appearances) and Clyde. In 1896 he travelled south of the border to join Sunderland, but left without playing a match and returned to Scotland, where he played for Royal Albert and once again for Clyde, where he did play in several league matches. In 1898 he joined Sunderland again, and this time made 69 appearances in the English Football League, scoring five goals. In 1901 he joined Derby County, but made only three appearances. In 1902 he joined New Brompton of the Southern League, where he played for two seasons, making over 60 appearances. Cambuslang
Cambuslang ( sco, Cammuslang, from gd, Camas Lang) is a town on the south-eastern outskirts of Greater Glasgow, Scotland. With approximately 30,000 residents, it is the 27th largest town in Scotland by population, although, never having had a town hall, it may also be considered the largest village in Scotland. It is within the local authority area of South Lanarkshire and directly borders the town of Rutherglen to the west. Slamannan
Slamannan ( gd, Sliabh Mhanainn) is a village in the south of the Falkirk council area in Central Scotland. It is south-west of Falkirk, east of Cumbernauld and north-east of Airdrie. Slamannan is located at the cross of the B803 and B8022 roads, near the banks of the River Avon, close to the border between Falkirk and North Lanarkshire councils. Slamannan had a population of around 1,360 residents. In 1755 the population was recorded as 1209. Fifty years later the population was around the 1000 in the Parish of Slamanan (although elsewhere in the same volume the usual spelling is used). Polmont
Polmont ( gd, Poll-Mhonadh) is a village in the Falkirk council area of Central Scotland. It lies towards the east of the town of Falkirk, north of the Union Canal, which runs adjacent to the village. Due to its situation in Central Scotland, many locations can be seen from Polmont, ranging from the Ochil Hills and the River Forth, to Cairnpapple Hill. 1902 Ibrox Disaster
The 1902 Ibrox disaster was the collapse of a stand at Ibrox Park (now Ibrox Stadium) in Govan (now part of Glasgow), Scotland. The incident led to the deaths of 25 supporters and injuries to 500 more during an international association football match between Scotland and England on 5 April 1902 as part of the 1901–02 British Home Championship. Ibrox Park had completed construction less than three years before the incident and was hosting its first international fixture, with the crowd estimated to be over 68,000. The match was the first time that the ground had been used at more than half capacity since its opening. Scotland entered the game needing only to avoid defeat to win the British Home Championship title.
