Alex Lloyd
Alex Lloyd (born 19 November 1974) is an Australian singer-songwriter. Four of his albums, ''Black the Sun'', '' Watching Angels Mend'', '' Distant Light'' and '' Alex Lloyd'', released between 1999 and 2005, made the top ten on the ARIA charts. Lloyd has also won the ARIA Award for Best Male Artist on three occasions. Early life and education Alexander Wasiliev was born to a father of Russian descent and a mother of Irish descent. Lloyd grew up in the inner Sydney suburb of Balmain, New South Wales, and attended Balmain High School (now Sydney Secondary College Balmain Campus). At the age of 15, Lloyd was a member of a school rock band that won the 1990 Balmain Battle of the Bands. This mainly blues-rock band evolved into "The Beefs", which began playing in local pubs and clubs and into indie rock band Mother Hubbard. "Amazing" is a song written by Australian singer-songwriter Alex Lloyd. The song was released on 17 September 2001 as the second single from his second studio album, '' Watching Angels Mend'' (2001). It was a success in Australia, reaching number 14, and in New Zealand, where it topped the singles chart in March 2002. It was also ranked number one on the Triple J Hottest 100 of 2001, Australia's largest annual music poll. The song is an example of the evergreen 'four chords of pop' progression. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2002, the song was nominated for Single of the Year and Highest Selling Single, losing out on both to "Can't Get You Out of My Head" by Kylie Minogue. The 2001 Triple J Hottest 100, announced in January 2002, was the ninth such countdown of the most popular songs of the year, according to listeners of the Australian radio station Triple J. As in previous years, a CD was released, this time featuring 34 songs (although not the top 34 songs as they were ranked). When the announcers for the final stretch of the countdown—Adam Spencer and Wil Anderson—got to the number-one track, they first played their own parody track " Matt Hayden", named after the Australian cricketer and set to the tune of "Ms. Jackson" by OutKast. "Ms. Jackson" actually reached the Hottest 100 the next year in 2002 when a cover by The Vines took it to number 30.
