Alex Cavallini
Alexandria Cavallini (née Rigsby born January 3, 1992) is an American ice hockey goaltender, currently a member of the PWHPA. She has competed in numerous tournaments for the United States women's national ice hockey team. She is the first goaltender in USA Hockey history to have competed with the US National Under-18, Under-22, and Senior women's teams. She competed for the Wisconsin Badgers women's ice hockey program 2010–2014, and was on the roster of the Minnesota Whitecaps. She is also the first American-born goaltender to have won an Olympic Gold Medal, an IIHF World Championship, and the Clarkson Cup, having played with the victorious Calgary Inferno in the 2019 Clarkson Cup Finals. In July 2019, she married her longtime boyfriend, Aidan Cavallini, who played hockey at the University of Wisconsin. Her father-in-law is Gino Cavallini, who played 593 NHL games. Delafield, Wisconsin
Delafield is a city in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, along the Bark River. The population was 7,085 at the 2010 census. The city of Delafield is a separate municipality from the Town of Delafield, both of which are situated in township 7 North Range 18 East. History Delafield was established in 1837, named after Dr. Charles Delafield of Milwaukee. It was the hometown of the Cushing brothers, who served the Union cause during the American Civil War—Alonzo (killed during Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg), William (led the raid on ), and Howard (an Indian fighter killed fighting the Apache in Arizona after the war). IIHF World Women's U18 Championships
The IIHF Women's World U18 Championship, officially the IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women's World Championship, is an annual ice hockey tournament for national women's under-18 (U18) ice hockey teams, administrated by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). It is the junior edition of the IIHF Women's World Championship and participation is limited to female ice hockey players under 18 years of age. History A qualification tournament was held in 2007 to finalize divisional placement and the inaugural championship was held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, in January 2008. The United States' national team were the first champions and have remained the dominant force in the tournament, winning gold at eight of fifteen championships and never ranking lower than third place. 2018 CWHL Draft
The 2018 CWHL Draft, the ninth and final in league history, took place on August 26. It marked the first and only draft Jayna Hefford served as CWHL commissioner. The CWHL indicated that general managers were authorized to "pre-sign" their first and second round selections before the draft. The window for pre-signing expired on August 17. Lauren Williams, a Canadian player and alumna of the Wisconsin Badgers women's ice hockey program, was the first pick overall in the draft. International Ice Hockey Federation
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF; french: Fédération internationale de hockey sur glace; german: Internationale Eishockey-Föderation) is a worldwide governing body for ice hockey. It is based in Zurich, Switzerland, and has 83 member countries. The IIHF maintains the IIHF World Ranking based on international ice hockey tournaments. Rules of play for IIHF events differ from hockey in North America and the rules of the National Hockey League (NHL). Decisions of the IIHF can be appealed through the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland. The IIHF maintains its own hall of fame for international ice hockey. Jessie Vetter
Jessica Ann "Jessie" Vetter (born December 19, 1985) is an American ice hockey player and a member of the United States women's national ice hockey team. She was also a member of the 2008–09 Wisconsin Badgers women's ice hockey team, which won an NCAA title. She was drafted 20th overall by the Boston Blades in the 2011 CWHL Draft. Playing career Vetter played as a goaltender on the boys' ice hockey team at Monona Grove High School and won three state girls' soccer championships. While in high school, she was a four-time all-conference selection and a three-time all-state pick in soccer. Jake Chelios (born March 8, 1991), also known as Jieke Kailiaosi, is an American-born professional ice hockey defenseman who is currently playing in China for Kunlun Red Star in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Born in the United States, he represented China at the 2022 Winter Olympics. He previously played with the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Chicago Steel are members of the United States Hockey League, joining the league in 2000. The Steel have played their home games at Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva, Illinois, since 2015; previously, the team played at Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville, Illinois, from 2000 to 2015. History The Fargo-Moorhead Ice Sharks, founded in 1996, moved to Bensenville, Illinois, and became the Chicago Steel in 2000. United States Hockey League
The United States Hockey League (USHL) is the top junior ice hockey league sanctioned by USA Hockey. The league consists of 16 active teams located in the midwestern United States, for players between the ages of 16 and 21. The USHL is strictly amateur, allowing former players to compete in National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA college hockey. The Chicago Steel won the Anderson Cup as the 2020–21 regular season champions and the 2021 Clark Cup, Clark Cup playoff championship; both were their second in franchise history. Gino Cavallini
Gino J. Cavallini (born November 24, 1962) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward. He is the brother of the NHL hockey player Paul Cavallini. Cavallini played one year for the St. Michael's Buzzers, a Junior hockey team in the Ontario Hockey Association (now part of the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League). Following his short stint with the Buzzers, Cavallini was offered a scholarship to play college hockey for the Bowling Green State University Falcons. He remained with the Falcons for two years (1982–1984). He is noted for scoring the game-winning goal in the 1984 NCAA Championship game, 7:11 into the fourth overtime. At 97 minutes and 11 seconds, it stands today as one of the longest games in Division I hockey history. The 2019 Clarkson Cup was held at Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto on 24 March 2019 with the Calgary Inferno defeating the Canadiennes de Montreal by a score of 5-2. Clarkson Cup
The Clarkson Cup (french: La Coupe Clarkson) is a women's ice hockey trophy, which from 2009 to 2019 was awarded to the winner of the Canadian Women's Hockey Championship (CWHL champion). With the folding of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) in 2019, the Cup has not been awarded since. Like the Stanley Cup and Canada's Jeanne Sauvé Memorial Cup, it was named after a former Governor General of Canada, Adrienne Clarkson. Though initially awarded in 2006 to the Canadian national women's hockey team, it was intended to be awarded to the top women's club in Canada. From 2006 to 2008, it was not awarded, owing to rights issues between Clarkson, Hockey Canada, and the artists responsible for making the trophy.
