Alex Blanchard
Alex Blanchard (born 3 January 1958) is a retired Dutch professional boxer who was active between 1979 and 1991. Between 1985 and 1987 he was rated as world's second light heavyweight boxer by the World Boxing Council. On 29 May 1984 he won the European light heavyweight title (European Boxing Union, EBU) by knocking out Richard Caramanolis in sixth round; before the bout Caramanolis was a reigning European Champion with a 27–0 record. Blanchard defended the EBU title five times, against Manfred Jassman (1984), Richard Caramanolis (1985), Andrew Andries (1985), Ralf Rocchigiani (1986) and Enrico Scacchia (1987), and lost it in 1987 to Tom Collins (boxer), Tom Collins. On 11 February 1985, Blanchard won the vacant World Athletic Association, WAA title by knocking out Jerry Reddick in second round. Tom Collins (born 1 July 1955) is British former boxer who held the British and European light heavyweight titles and fought for three world titles. Career Born in Curaçao, Collins was based in Leeds. He began his professional career in 1977 and won his first six fights before suffering his first defeat in May 1978 to Harald Skog. In December 1978 and January 1979 he twice fought Dennis Andries who was at a similar stage in his career, Andries winning both fights. In February 1980 he won his first title, taking the BBBofC Central Area light heavyweight title with a first round stoppage of Greg Evans. Orthodox Stance
In combat sports such as boxing, an orthodox stance is one in which the boxer places their left foot farther in front of the right foot, thus having their weaker side closer to the opponent. Because it favors the stronger, dominant side (often the right side; see laterality), the orthodox stance is the most common stance in boxing and MMA. It is mostly used by right-handed boxers. Many boxing champions have fought in an orthodox stance. Alternative stances The corresponding designation for a left-handed boxer is southpaw and is generally a mirror image of the orthodox stance. A southpaw boxer guards and jabs with their right hand. Ralf Rocchigiani (born 13 February 1963) is a boxer from Duisburg-Hamborn in Germany. He was often overlooked due to his more talented and successful younger brother, Graciano Rocchigiani. He became a professional boxer in 1983 and won the German Cruiserweight championship in 1985. He failed in two attempts to win the European Boxing Union Light Heavyweight championships. He also failed to take the WBO Cruiserweight championship from Tyrone Booze in 1992. He finally won the WBO Cruiserweight championship on June 10, 1995, and held it for more than two years. He won the vacant title by scoring a technical knockout over Carl Thompson and defended it six times. He lost the title in a rematch with Thompson in 1997 and retired from boxing in 1999.
