Alessandro Barchiesi
Alessandro Barchiesi (born 1955) is an Italian classicist. A specialist on Latin poetry, he is best known for his work on Horace, Vergil and Ovid. Having spent the majority of his career in Italy and the United States, he has served as a professor of Classics at New York University since 2016. Career Until 1987, Barchiesi was based at the Scuola Normale di Pisa, first as a student of Gian Biagio Conte and later as research fellow. He then became an associate professor at the University of Milan in 1987. In 1990, he was appointed to a tenured position at the University of Verona which he held for ten years. In 2000, Barchiesi moved to a professorship at the University of Siena at Arezzo. He held this position in parallel with a ''Spogli Professorship'' at the Stanford University. Since 2016, he works as a professor of Classics at NYU. In addition to the above appointments, he has had visiting positions at various institutions, including Oxford, Harvard and Princeton. Walter de Gruyter GmbH, known as De Gruyter (), is a German scholarly publishing house specializing in academic literature. History The roots of the company go back to 1749 when Frederick the Great granted the Königliche Realschule in Berlin the royal privilege to open a bookstore and "to publish good and useful books". In 1800, the store was taken over by Georg Reimer (1776–1842), operating as the ''Reimer'sche Buchhandlung'' from 1817, while the school’s press eventually became the ''Georg Reimer Verlag''. From 1816, Reimer used the representative Sacken'sche Palace on Berlin's Wilhelmstraße for his family and the publishing house, whereby the wings contained his print shop and press. The Friends of Herculaneum Society is a British association founded in 2004 to promote research into the archaeological site of Herculaneum at Ercolano, near Naples, Italy. Its headquarters are in the Ioannou Centre for Classical and Byzantine Studies in Oxford. It is registered as a charity and incorporated as a company under the name "The Herculaneum Society." Nigel Wilson (Classicist)
Nigel Guy Wilson (born 23 July 1935) is a British scholar, emeritus fellow and tutor in Classics, Lincoln College, Oxford. His field of research is ancient Greek history, language and literature, and culture, art and archaeology of the Byzantine world. Since retiring in 2002 he has continued his researches into Greek palaeography, textual criticism and the history of classical scholarship. In the series of Oxford Classical Texts his edition of Aristophanes appeared in 2007, and a new edition of Herodotus for the same series appeared in 2015. Another substantial piece of work was a contribution to the study of the famous Archimedes Palimpsest, which was sold at auction in New York in 1998 for $2,000,000; the results of a collaboration lasting ten years and involving experts in various fields appeared in ''The Archimedes palimpsest'' (Cambridge University Press 2011), which was described by the reviewer in the ''TLS'' as "the most beautiful book produced in this century". Lucia Prauscello is a Classicist who works on Greek Philology and Literature. She is a professor at the University of Oxford. Education Prauscello completed her undergraduate degree at Pisa University in 1999, followed by a postgraduate degree at the Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa in 2003. Career Prauscello held a Junior Research Fellowship at the Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa (from 2003 to 2004) followed by a Momigliano Fellowship in Arts at UCL from 2004 to 2006. Robert Louis Herbert Fowler, FBA (born 19 May 1954) is a classicist and academic. He was Henry Overton Wills Professor of Greek at the University of Bristol between 1996 and 2017. Career Born on 19 May 1954 at Palmerston, Ontario, Robert Louis Herbert Fowler attended the University of Toronto, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1976 and Master of Arts degree the next year. The Jane K. Sather Professorship of Classical Literature is an endowed chair for the study of classics at the University of California, Berkeley. Established in 1914 after a donation by Jane K.
