Aleksey Verbov
Aleksey Igorevich Verbov (russian: Алексей Игоревич Вербов, born 31 January 1982) is a retired Russian volleyball player, a former member of Russia men's national volleyball team and the Russian club Zenit Kazan. He is currently coaching the men's Zenit Kazan team. With the Russian men's national team, he won the gold medal at the 2013 Men's European Volleyball Championship played in Denmark and Poland. He won the award as Best Libero in the tournament. He also won the bronze medal in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. He played with Lokomotiv Belgorod winning the bronze medal at the 2005–06 CEV Champions League; he won the award "Best Libero" also in this tournament. Libero (volleyball)
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the programme at the Atlanta 1996. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. The complete set of rules is extensive, but play essentially proceeds as follows: a player on one of the teams begins a 'rally' by serving the ball (tossing or releasing it and then hitting it with a hand or arm), from behind the back boundary line of the court, over the net, and into the receiving team's court. Russia Men's National Volleyball Team
The Russia men's national volleyball team is governed by the Russian Volleyball Federation and took part in international volleyball competitions. FIVB considers Russia as the inheritor of the records of Soviet Union (1948–1991) and CIS (1992). The USSR Volleyball Federation joined the FIVB in 1948, a year after the foundation of the international governing body.
