Aleksandra Ziółkowska-Boehm
Aleksandra Ziółkowska-Boehm (born 15 April 1949, in Łódź, Poland), is a Polish-born U.S.-based writer and academic. She obtained her Ph.D in Humanistic studies at the Warsaw University. Her works include historical biographies,Dr Christoph Mick, review of Kaia, Heroine of the 1944 Warsaw Rising' by Aleksandra Ziolkowska-Boehm. the current outlook of Native Americans, autobiographical stories of her travels, Ingrid Bergman, and cats. Biography Ziółkowska-Boehm is the daughter of Henryk Ziółkowski (1916–1992) and Antonina (née Laśkiewicz; 1922–2009). She has two brothers, Henryk (born 1946) and Krzysztof (born 1950). She attended the V Liceum ogólnokształcące im. W.Reymonta in her native Łódź. After this she studied five years of Polish language and literature at the University of Łódź. Kosciuszko Foundation
The Kosciuszko Foundation is a charitable foundation based in New York City. It was created by Stephen Mizwa to fund programs that promote Polish-American intellectual and artistic exchange. History The Polish American Scholarship Committee was established in 1923 by Dr. Stephen Mizwa to bring students to universities in the United States. Mizwa worked with the president of Vassar College, Henry Noble MacCracken, who had visited Poland. The two expanded the Scholarship Committee's mission to promote cultural and educational exchanges between the United States and Poland. In December 1925, the Scholarship Committee changed into the new Kosciuszko Foundation. The Polish American Historical Association (PAHA), founded in 1942, is a scholarly not-for-profit association dedicated to the study of Polish American history and culture. Originally a section of the larger Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences in America, PAHA soon became an independent organization. On September 11, 1942, historian Oskar Halecki proposed an autonomous historical institution and chose Mieczyslaw Haiman of the Polish Museum of America in Chicago as its founding president. Since 1944, PAHA publishes ''Polish American Studies'', an interdisciplinary journal focused primarily in social science and the humanities relating to American Polonia. The ''Stowarzyszenie Pisarzy Polskich'' is a Polish Writers' Association, an organization of Polish writers, poets, playwrights, critics and translators. SPP, established in 1989 is a continuation of the Professional Union of Polish Writers, founded in 1920 on the initiative of Stefan Żeromski which was deactivated during World War II. The foundation of the association was possible due to the historical and political transformations, which took place in 1989 in Poland.
