Aleksandar Wohl
Aleksandar H. Wohl (born 21 July 1963) is an Australian chess player. He was awarded the title of International Master by FIDE in 1994. Chess career Wohl won the Australian championship in 1992 ahead of English Grandmaster Tony Miles. In 1989 and 2009 he tied for first place at the Australian Open Championship. Wohl for team Australia in the Chess Olympiads of 1992, 1996, 2000, 2002, 2006 and 2012. In 2000 he won the Oceania zonal championship, qualifying for the FIDE World Chess Championship 2000. He was knocked out in the first round by Aleksandr Galkin. Other successful performances include first place in the 38th Doeberl Cup in Canberra 2000, joint first with Ian Rogers in the 43rd Doeberl Cup in 2005, joint first with Eduard Fomichenko in the 11th Vins du Medoc International Open 2008, first in the Schlosspark Open 2009 and first at Munich 2010. Rijeka
Rijeka ( , , ; also known as Fiume hu, Fiume, it, Fiume ; local Chakavian: ''Reka''; german: Sankt Veit am Flaum; sl, Reka) is the principal seaport and the third-largest city in Croatia (after Zagreb and Split). Ian Rogers (chess Player)
Ian Rogers (born 24 June 1960) is an Australian chess player, trainer and writer. He was awarded the title Grandmaster by FIDE in 1985. Personal life Before turning professional, Rogers completed a BSc (Meteorology) from the University of Melbourne. He is married to Cathy Rogers, herself an International Arbiter, Woman FIDE Master, and a lawyer. He is a distant cousin of Australian cricketer Chris Rogers. Career Rogers is the first Australian-raised chess grandmaster (Walter Browne achieved the title earlier but grew up in the US and represented Australia only from 1969–1972). Rogers attained the Grandmaster title in 1985 after becoming an International Master in 1980. He was Australia's highest-rated player for over twenty years, and he represented Australia at fourteen Chess Olympiads (twelve of them on first board). Chessmetrics
Chessmetrics is a system for rating chess players devised by Jeff Sonas. It is intended as an improvement over the Elo rating system. Implementation Chessmetrics is a weighted average of past performance. The score considers a player's win percentage against other players weighted by the ratings of the other players and the time elapsed since the match. A 10% increase in performance is equivalent to an increase of 85 rating points. The weighting of previous matches digresses linearly from 100% for just-finished matches to zero for matches conducted more than two years ago. The Commonwealth Chess Championship is a gathering of chess players from Commonwealth countries. Winners : History A championship was planned for New Zealand in 1949, but it was canceled because the British Chess Federation was unable to attend.
