Alcan–Beaver Creek Border Crossing
The Alcan–Beaver Creek Border Crossing (french: Poste frontalier d'Alcan–Beaver Creek) is a border crossing point between the United States and Canada. It is located on the historic Alaska Highway, which was built during World War II for the purpose of providing a road connection between the contiguous United States and Alaska through Canada. Beaver Creek, located on the Canadian side of the border in the Yukon, is the westernmost community in the country. Until 1971, the U.S. operated its border station at Tok, Alaska, nearly away from the international Canada–United States border. This station inspected traffic entering the U.S. on both the Alaska Highway and the Top of the World Highway. In 1971, American border inspection stations were constructed near the border both at Alcan and at the Poker Creek–Little Gold Creek Border Crossing. Tok is a census-designated place (CDP) in Southeast Fairbanks Census Area, Alaska, United States. The population was 1,243 at the 2020 census, slightly down from 1,258 in 2010. Geography Tok lies on a large, flat alluvial plain of the Tanana Valley between the Tanana River and the Alaska Range at an important junction of the Alaska Highway (Alaska Route 2) with the Glenn Highway ( Alaska Route 1). Top Of The World Highway
The Top of the World Highway is a highway, beginning at a junction with the Taylor Highway (Alaska Route 5) near the unincorporated community of Jack Wade, Alaska travelling east to its terminus at the ferry terminal in West Dawson, Yukon, on the western banks of the Yukon River. The highway has been in existence since at least 1955 and is only open during the summer months. The entire portion of the highway in Yukon is also known as Yukon Highway 9. The Alaska portion is signed as part of the Taylor Highway and the Alaska Department of Transportation refers to it as the Top of the World Highway.
