Alberta Provincial Highway No. 34, also known as Highway 34, was a highway in northern Alberta, northwest Alberta, Canada, that existed in various configurations from the mid-1930s to the late 1990s. It was originally established in the 1930s as a east–west alternative highway to Alberta Highway 2, Highway 2 (then Highway 1) from north of Grande Prairie to Triangle, Alberta, Triangle, west of High Prairie, through the southern Peace Country via Valleyview, Alberta, Valleyview. After a number of realignments affecting the east segment of the highway in the late 1950s through mid-1960s and a shortening in the early 1990s due to highway renumbering, Highway 34 spent its final years as a highway between Highway 2 north of Grande Prairie to Valleyview before being renumbered as Alberta Highway 43, Highway 43 on March 1, 1998. Grande Prairie
Grande Prairie is a city in northwest Alberta, Canada within the southern portion of an area known as Peace River Country. It is located at the intersection of Highway 43 (part of the CANAMEX Corridor) and Highway 40 (the Bighorn Highway), approximately northwest of Edmonton. The city is surrounded by the County of Grande Prairie No. 1. McLennan, Alberta
McLennan is a town in northern Alberta, Canada. It is approximately north of High Prairie on Highway 2. Named after John K. McLennan, vice president of the Edmonton, Dunvegan and British Columbia Railway on what used to be a community known as Round Lake, the town lies on the southern shore of Kimiwan Lake (the Cree word for rain), and northwest of Winagami Lake. The large concentration of shorebirds and waterfowl and McLennan's informal nickname as the 'Bird Capital of Canada' is due to the nearby lakes creating an attraction for migratory birds. Winagami Lake Provincial Park is located southeast of McLennan.
