Albert Bontridder
Albert Bontridder (4 April 1921 – 13 December 2015) was a Belgian architect and writer, born in Anderlecht. In 1953 he married Olga Dohnalova, a Czech refugee, and together they had two children. He graduated as an architect in 1942. As an architect, he made the plan for the house of his friend Louis Paul Boon. He was an editor of the experimental illustrated magazines ''Tijd en Mens'' (E: Time and Man) (1949–1955) and ''Kentering'' (E: Change) (1966–1977). He published his first poems in French and he made his actual debut with ''Hoog water'' (E: high tide) (1951). Anderlecht
Anderlecht (, ) is one of the 19 municipalities of the Brussels-Capital Region, Belgium. Located in the south-western part of the region, it is bordered by the City of Brussels, Forest, Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, and Saint-Gilles, as well as the Flemish municipalities of Dilbeek and Sint-Pieters-Leeuw. Louis Paul Boon
Louis Paul Boon (15 March 1912, in Aalst, Belgium, Aalst – 10 May 1979, in Erembodegem) was a Belgian writer of novels, poetry, pornography, columns and art criticism. He was also a painter. He is best known for the novels ''My Little War'' (1947), the diptych ''Chapel Road'' (1953) / ''Summer in Termuren'' (1956), ''Menuet'' (1955) and ''Pieter Daens'' (1971). Biography He was born in 1912 as Lodewijk Paul Aalbrecht Boon in Aalst, Belgium, Aalst, Belgium, the oldest son in a working-class family. Although he was still very young during the First World War, memories of a German soldier shooting a prisoner would end up in later autobiographical work. Boon left school at age 16 to work for his father as a car painter. He was expelled from school for possession of forbidden books. Arkprijs Van Het Vrije Woord
The Arkprijs van het Vrije Woord (Ark Prize of the Free Word) is a symbolic award created in 1951 by Herman Teirlinck and the editorial team of the ''Nieuw Vlaams Tijdschrift'' (New Flemish magazine) to counteract ideologically driven restrictions on the freedom of expression. Teirlinck wanted to spotlight those persons who actively promote the freedom of opinion. No financial reward is associated with the prize. Flemish Literature
Flemish literature is literature from Flanders, historically a region comprising parts of present-day Belgium, France and the Netherlands. Until the early 19th century, this literature was regarded as an integral part of Dutch literature. After Belgium became independent from the Netherlands in 1830, the term Flemish literature acquired a narrower meaning and refers to the Dutch-language literature produced in Belgium. It remains a part of Dutch-language literature. Willem Roggeman
Willem Maurits Roggeman (born Brussels, 9 July 1935) is a Belgian poet, novelist and art critic. Career Brussels-born Willem Roggeman attended the Etterbeek Royal Atheneum and then studied economics at Ghent University. His journalistic career began in 1959 when he became cultural editor of ''Het Laatste Nieuws'', where he published articles on literature, visual arts and jazz. Between 1981 and 1993 he was deputy director and acting director of the Flemish Cultural Centre ''De Brakke Grond'' in Amsterdam, where he organized exhibitions of important Flemish artists and literary evenings with Flemish and Dutch authors. From 1982 to 1989, and again from 2006, he served as president of the Louis Paul Boon Society. Flemish (''Vlaams'') is a Low Franconian dialect cluster of the Dutch language. It is sometimes referred to as Flemish Dutch (), Belgian Dutch ( ), or Southern Dutch ().
