Alan Rivett
Alan Rivett (born 21 March 1956) is a former international speedway rider from Australia. Speedway career Rivett reached the final of the Speedway World Pairs Championship in the 1988 Speedway World Pairs Championship. Despite riding for Australia he was called up to replace injured New Zealand rider David Bargh in the final. He rode in the top tier of British Speedway, riding for various clubs. At the 1986 Australian Individual Speedway Championship, he won the bronze medal. Whangārei () is the northernmost city in New Zealand and the regional capital of Northland Region. Bradford is a city and the administrative centre of the City of Bradford district in West Yorkshire, England. The city is in the Pennines' eastern foothills on the banks of the Bradford Beck. Mitchell Owen (Mitch) Shirra (born 27 September 1958 in Auckland, New Zealand) is a former motorcycle speedway rider who rode with the Coventry Bees, Reading Racers, Swindon Robins and Ipswich Witches in the British League. Career Shirra began riding at the Kembla Grange Speedway in New South Wales in 1973 at the age of 14 (he lied about his age in order to race as riders had to be at least 16 years old), although he would consider the Liverpool Speedway in Sydney as his home track. Early in his career this actually led him to ride as an Australian rider, though by the late 1970s when his true age and nationality was revealed he would be considered a New Zealand rider. In 1975, Shirra joined the Coventry Bees and was loaned out to the Coatbridge Tigers for a year. From 1976-1982 he rode for Coventry then transferred to the Reading Racers. Odsal Stadium in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England, is the home of Bradford Bulls Rugby League team. It has also been used by the Bradford Dukes speedway team, BRISCA F1 and F2 stock cars, the football team Bradford City, following the Valley Parade fire, and for baseball, basketball, kabbadi, show jumping, tennis, live music, international Rugby League and the 1997 Speedway Grand Prix of Great Britain. 1986 Australian Individual Speedway Championship
The 1986 Australian Individual Speedway Championship was held at the Pioneer Park Speedway in Ayr, Queensland on 11 January. Eighteen-year-old Brisbane based rider Troy Butler surprised by winning his first (and only) Australian Championship and in doing so becoming the youngest winner in the history of the Australian Championship since it was first run in 1926. The top four placed riders were all from Queensland with he first non-Queenslander being fifth placed South Australian Steve Baker who lost a runoff for fourth place to Steve Regeling. Baker and Regeling were the only riders to defeat Butler on the day. In the absence of six time and reigning champion Billy Sanders who had died in England in April 1985, Victoria's three time national champion Phil Crump was the favourite to take out his fourth title.
