Alan Reid (footballer, Born 1956)
Alan Arthur Reid (born 29 January 1956) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon and Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He also played for East Fremantle in the Western Australian National Football League (WANFL). Reid, who came from Coorow, was a member of East Fremantle's 1974 premiership team. Reid began his professional career at 17 years old. He represented Western Australia in an interstate fixture against Victoria at Subiaco Oval in 1977, which they won by 94 points, to record their first ever "State of Origin" victory. A wingman, Reid had a strong debut season at Essendon in 1979, when he averaged over 20 disposals from his 16 appearances and polled nine Brownlow Medal votes. Only Terry Daniher polled more votes for Essendon that year. Injury restricted him to seven games in 1980, but he was a regular again in 1981, playing 18 games. Alan Reid (Scottish Footballer)
Alan Reid (born 21 October 1980 in Paisley) is a Scottish professional footballer who is currently without a club. Reid started his senior career with Hibernian after joining from youth side Renfrew Victoria. He was loaned out four times to Queen's Park (twice), East Fife and Greenock Morton; before being released and signing for Morton's rivals St Mirren. Reid stayed at ''the Buddies'' for three years, with a short loan spell at Albion Rovers, before being released in 2008. A further trial spell at Morton followed, before he signed for Stenhousemuir a year later, then he returned to Morton until the end of the 2009–10 season when he was released. Sir Philip Alan Reid, (born January 18, 1947) has been Chairman of the Duchy of Lancaster since January 2018 and was Keeper of the Privy Purse, Treasurer to the Queen and Receiver General to the Duchy of Lancaster in the Royal Household of the Sovereign of the United Kingdom from 2002 until 2017. Reid was formerly a senior partner with Big Four accountancy firm KPMG. As Keeper of the Privy Purse, Reid was responsible for the expenditure of public funds voted by the Parliament to the Sovereign, usually called the Sovereign Grant. As Treasurer to the Queen, he was also responsible for the Sovereign's private finances. The Sovereign also holds the title of Duke of Lancaster (regardless of gender), which brings with it responsibility for the Duchy of Lancaster estates. He retired from the Royal Household in December 2017. Alan Douglas Joseph Reid (19 December 1914 – 1 September 1987), nicknamed the Red Fox, was an Australian political journalist, who worked in the Federal Parliamentary Press Gallery from 1937 to 1985. He is noted for his role in the Australian Labor Party split of 1955 and his coinage of the term "36 faceless men" to describe the members of the Australian Labor Party's Federal Conference. Biography Reid was born on 19 December 1914 in Toxteth, an inner-city area of Liverpool, England, to William Douglas Reid, a New Zealand-born Scottish steamship officer, and Margaret Reid (née Senar). Alan Reid (born 2 May 1950, Glasgow, Scotland) is a Scottish folk multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. He was a founding member of Battlefield Band, which combined traditional Celtic melodies and new material. Biography 1969–2010: the Battlefield Band years Alan Reid joined Battlefield Band in 1969, at a time when they were evolving into a folk group. From 1973, Battlefield Band quickly became pre-eminent in the emerging Scottish Traditional music scene, becoming established firmly at the forefront where they remain today. Battlefield Band made two albums with the Breton label Arfolk (released in 1976 & 1978) and three albums with the Topic label (released in 1977, 1978 & 1979) but since 1980 have recorded exclusively with Temple Records. Alan Reid (born 7 August 1954, Ayr, Scotland) is a Scottish Liberal Democrat politician who has been a councillor in the East Dunbartonshire ward of Bearsden North since 2022. He was previously the Member of Parliament (MP) for Argyll and Bute from 2001 to 2015, when he lost his seat to the Scottish National Party (SNP) at the 2015 general election. Alan William Reid (born June 14, 1962) is a Scottish-American mathematician working primarily with arithmetic hyperbolic 3-manifolds. He is the Edgar Odell Lovett Chair of mathematics at Rice University, 2017—present. Biography Reid grew up in Buckie, Scotland. He obtained his doctorate from the University of Aberdeen, supervised by Colin Maclachlan, on the topic of ''Arithmetic Kleinian Groups and their Fuchsian Subgroups''. He was a Royal Society University Research Fellow at Cambridge 1992-96. Research Alan Reid's research primarily focusses on low-dimensional topology, hyperbolic manifolds and profinite groups.
