Alan Jackson (footballer)
Alan Arthur Jackson (born 22 August 1938) is an English former professional footballer, who played in the Football League for Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bury and Brighton. Career Jackson joined Wolverhampton Wanderers as a youngster in 1953. He spent his early professional days in the reserves before finally making his league debut on 7 April 1958 in a 2–0 win at Arsenal. He played in the return game staged just 24 hours later, in a season that saw the club win the league title. An injury to Jimmy Murray gave Jackson his only other appearances for Wolves during November 1958. He appeared in two further league games (scoring once) and in their first-ever European Cup tie, where he again scored, against Schalke 04. He was sold to Bury in 1959, where he played the vast majority of his games. He netted 43 goals over four seasons at Gigg Lane before moving to Brighton and Hove Albion. Swadlincote is a former mining town in the district of South Derbyshire, England, lying within The National Forest area. It borders the counties of Leicestershire and Staffordshire, south-east of Burton upon Trent and north-west of Ashby-de-la-Zouch, and south-west of Derby. It also covers Newhall, Oversetts, Midway and the villages of Church Gresley and Woodville, with the sub-district of Goseley. It has a population of some 36,000. Gigg Lane
Gigg Lane is a football ground in Bury, Greater Manchester, England, built for Bury F.C. in 1885. The first match was played on 12 September 1885 between Bury and a team from Wigan. One of the world's oldest professional football stadiums, Gigg Lane was in continuous use by Bury until August 2019 when the club was expelled from the English Football League. The ground's last competitive match was on 4 May 2019 when Bury hosted Port Vale. In November 2020, Bury F.C. was placed in administration and the ground was later put up for sale by the administrator. In February 2022, the Est.1885 fans' group completed a deal to purchase the entire property. They also acquired the trading name and memorabilia of Bury F.C. Jimmy Murray (English Footballer)
James Robert Murray (11 October 1935 – 27 September 2008) was an English footballer, who spent the majority of his league career with Wolverhampton Wanderers. Career Murray was signed up by Wolves as a youngster and turned professional in November 1953. He spent a few seasons in the reserves before he finally made his league debut on 12 November 1955 in a 2–0 win over Charlton Athletic. He quickly established himself within the team that season, scoring 11 goals, and remained a prolific scorer for the club over the following seasons. In 1957/58, he was the leading goalscorer as the club captured the league title, which they retained the next season. Murray also won an FA Cup winners medal in 1960, as he played in the 3–0 final win over Blackburn Rovers. His time at Molineux also saw him appearing in European games, and scoring against the likes of Barcelona.
