Alan DeBoer
Alan W. DeBoer (born 1950/51) is an American businessman and Republican politician. He served as mayor of Ashland, Oregon from 2001 until 2004, and also served on the Ashland City Council and School Board. Political career DeBoer ran for the Oregon House of Representatives in 2016, however was nominated by the Republican Party as their candidate for the seat vacated by the death of State Senator Alan Bates in August 2016. He was elected to the Oregon State Senate in November 2016, defeating Democrat Tonia Moro by about 500 votes. In a debate in October 2016, DeBoer stated his opposition to Oregon Ballot Measure 97. Oregon Ballot Measure 97 was a ballot measure in the Oregon state elections, 2016, 2016 election in the U.S. state of Oregon. The initiative asked voters to determine whether or not to impose a 2.5 percent gross receipts tax on C corporations with Oregon sales exceeding $25 million. S corporations and Benefit corporation, benefit companies (companies that benefit society and the environment, as determined under state law) would be exempt from the tax. It was estimated the measure would raise $3 billion annually for the state, if passed. The nonpartisan Oregon Legislative Revenue Office determined that of the some 250,000 businesses registered in Oregon, 951 would be subject to the tax; of these, the hundred largest taxpayers would pay about two-thirds of the monies raised. The ''Ashland Daily Tidings'' was a morning newspaper serving the city of Ashland, Oregon, United States. It was owned by Rosebud Media, like its sister publication, the Medford-based ''Mail Tribune,'' which has continued to publish. The ''Daily Tidings'' was distributed Monday through Saturday mornings (Saturday afternoon publication was changed under Editor Andrew Scot Bolsinger in 2004; Circulation Director Ed Rose changed the Daily Tidings from afternoon production to morning in December, 2010). It was one of Oregon's smallest-circulation dailies, along with the ''Baker City Herald'' in the state's northeast region. Oregon State Senate
The Oregon State Senate is the upper house of the statewide legislature for the US state of Oregon. Along with the lower chamber Oregon House of Representatives it makes up the Oregon Legislative Assembly. There are 30 members of the state Senate, representing 30 districts across the state, each with a population of 127,700. The state Senate meets in the east wing of the Oregon State Capitol in Salem. The ''Mail Tribune'' is a seven-day daily newspaper based in Medford, Oregon, United States that serves Jackson County, Oregon, and adjacent areas of Josephine County, Oregon and northern California.
