Alan Curtis (American Actor)
Alan Curtis (born Harry Ueberroth or Harold Neberroth, July 24, 1909 – February 2, 1953) was an American film actor who appeared in over 50 films. Early life and career Born Harry Ueberroth or Harold Neberroth in Chicago, he began his career as a model before becoming an actor, appearing in local newspaper ads. His looks did not go unnoticed in Hollywood. He began appearing in films in the late 1930s, making his screen debut in ''Winterset (film), Winterset'' (1936). His film activities included a Technicolor appearance in the Alice Faye-Don Ameche film ''Hollywood Cavalcade'' (1939) and a memorable role in ''High Sierra (film), High Sierra'' (1941). He was one of the romantic leads in Abbott and Costello's first hit film ''Buck Privates'' (1941) and played composer Franz Schubert in ''The Great Awakening (film), The Great Awakening'' (1941). It is a highly fictionalized account of the 1942 Operation Anthropoid, assassination of Nazi official Reinhard Heydrich and the resulting Lidice massacre, which the Nazi Germany, Germans committed as revenge. ''The Great Awakening'' is a 1941 American historical musical drama film directed by Reinhold Schünzel and starring Alan Curtis, Ilona Massey, and Billy Gilbert. The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a historic landmark which consists of more than 2,700 five-pointed terrazzo and brass stars embedded in the sidewalks along 15 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard and three blocks of Vine Street in Hollywood, California. John Payne (actor)
John Howard Payne (May 23, 1912 – December 6, 1989) was an American film actor who is mainly remembered from film noir crime stories and 20th Century Fox musical films, and for his leading roles in ''Miracle on 34th Street'' and the NBC Western television series ''The Restless Gun''. Early life Payne was born in Roanoke, Virginia. His mother, Ida Hope (''née'' Schaeffer), a singer, graduated from the Virginia Seminary in Roanoke and married George Washington Payne, a developer in Roanoke. They lived at Fort Lewis, an antebellum mansion that became a state historic property, but was destroyed by fire in the late 1940s. Payne attended prep school at Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, and then went to Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia. Clyde H. Lucas (c. 1901 – January 15, 1982) was an American big-band leader who was popular in the United States in the 1930s and 1940s. He was the leader of ''Clyde Lucas and His California Dons''. Early years Lucas grew up in Los Angeles, California and was of "Chicano" (American Mexican) background. He began his career as a singer and trombonist in the Herb Wiedoeft orchestra, and launched his own band in the early 1930s.
