State Route 249 (SR 249) is a route in the United States that serves as a connection between Alabama's SR 27 in Ozark with Fort Rucker. Route description SR 249 begins at the eastern gate of Fort Rucker southwest of Ozark in Dale County, heading northeast on four-lane undivided Andrews Avenue. The route runs along the border between Fort Rucker to the west and Ozark to the east, passing through wooded areas with some fields, homes, and businesses, intersecting CR 21 and CR 34. The road fully enters Ozark and runs through woodland with some residences, intersecting CR 101 before coming to a junction with US 231/ SR 53 in a commercial area. Past this, SR 249 becomes a five-lane road with a center left-turn lane that passes more businesses before coming to its northern terminus at SR 27, where Andrews Avenue continues northeast as part of that route. Fort Rucker
Fort Rucker is a U.S. Army post located primarily in Dale County, Alabama, United States. It was named for a Civil War officer, Confederate General Edmund Rucker. The post is the primary flight training installation for U.S. Army Aviators and is home to the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence (USAACE) and the United States Army Aviation Museum. Small sections of the post also lie in Coffee, Geneva, and Houston counties. Part of the Dale County section of the base is a census-designated place; its population was 4,636 at the 2010 census. The main post has entrances from three bordering cities, Daleville, Ozark and Enterprise. In the years before the September 11, 2001 attacks, the main post (except airfields and other restricted areas) was an open post with unmanned gates allowing civilians to drive through. Ozark is a city in and the county seat of Dale County, Alabama. As of the 2010 census, the population of the city was 14,907. Ozark is the principal city of the Ozark Micropolitan Statistical Area, as well as a part of the Dothan-Ozark Combined Statistical Area. State Route 27 (SR 27) is a state highway in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Alabama. The southern terminus of the highway is at the Florida state line, where the route serves as a continuation of County Road 185 (CR 185). The northern terminus of the highway is at the intersection with SR 10 at Abbeville. Route description Entering Alabama in eastern Geneva County, SR 27 is primarily a two-lane highway. State Route 53 (SR 53) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Alabama. The majority, between Dothan and Huntsville, is signed as U.S. Route 231 (US 231), but the two ends – south to Florida and north to I-65/ US 31 near Tennessee – are independent.
