Al Jadeed
''Al Jadeed'' ( ar, الجديد, ''al-Jadīd'', lit=''the new'', en, New TV) is an independent Lebanese TV station. Based in Beirut, it is one of the leading TV channels in Lebanon. It was launched in 1992 and closed in 1997 due to Syrian intervention, and then relaunched in 2001 during a luxurious celebration attended by prominent figures. Al Jadeed today is considered one of the 3 leading TV channels in Lebanon (all 3 of which are the only mainstream channels in Lebanon not owned by the government or any political parties, regardless of political affiliation). NEW is a television station broadcasting in Perth, Western Australia, and is a member of Network 10. Out of the three commercial stations, NEW generally rates the lowest overall, but usually rates highest in its target demographic (people aged 16–49). NEW broadcasts in digital television on VHF Channel 11 from Carmel, located in the Perth Hills. Its studios are located in Subiaco. NEW broadcasts reasonably good quality 1080i high definition digital programming, the second-highest quality in Perth. Jamil Al Sayyed ( ar, جميل السيد; born 1950) is a Lebanese politician, a current Member of the Parliament of Lebanon, and the former head of Lebanon's Sureté Générale or Lebanese General Security Directorate. He was arbitrarily detained for four years, from 2005 to 2009 by a law he drafted himself during the Syrian occupation of Lebanon, due to his alleged involvement in the assassination of former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri. He was released on 29 April 2009 due to "inconsistencies in the statements of key witnesses and of a lack of corroborative evidence to support these statements and to the fact that some witnesses had modified their statements and one key witness had expressly retracted his original statement incriminating the persons detained". Ahmad Al-Assir (Arabic: أحمد الأسير, born 5 May 1968) is a Lebanese former Sunni Imam of the ''Bilal Bin Rabah Mosque'' in Sidon, who became an ex-leader of an Islamist group, that attacked the Lebanese Army in 2013 in Saida. He is considered by some to be a Salafi. Ali Shaaban
ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib ( ar, عَلِيّ بْن أَبِي طَالِب; 600 – 661 CE) was the last of four Rightly Guided Caliphs to rule Islam (r. 656 – 661) immediately after the death of Muhammad, and he was the first Shia Imam. Walid Kamal Jumblatt ( ar, وليد جنبلاط; born 7 August 1949) is a Lebanese Druze politician and former militia commander who has been leading the Progressive Socialist Party since 1977. While leading the Lebanese National Resistance Front and allying with the Amal Movement during the Lebanese Civil War, he worked closely with Suleiman Frangieh to oppose Amine Gemayel's rule as president in 1983. Rafic Bahaa El Deen Al Hariri ( ar, رفيق بهاء الدين الحريري; 1 November 1944 – 14 February 2005) was a Lebanese business tycoon and politician who served as the Prime Minister of Lebanon from 1992 to 1998 and again from 2000 until his resignation on .
