Governorates Of Kuwait
Kuwait is divided into 6 governorates (''muhafazah''). The governorates are further subdivided into areas. The governorate is headed by a Governor appointed by a ministerial decree for a period of 4 years which can be renewed upon the proposal of the Prime Minister. History The beginning of the formation of governorates in the State of Kuwait started back in 1962 with the Emiri decree No. 6 which divided the Kuwait into three governorates i.e. Al Asimah Governorate, Ḩawallī Governorate and Al Aḩmadi Governorate. Later, Jahra Governorate, Farwaniya Governorate and Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate were formed in 1979, 1988 and 1999 respectively. The Capital Governorate ( ), sometimes referred to as Al Kuwayt, is one of the six governorates of Kuwait. It comprises the historic core of Kuwait City, industrial and port areas such as Shuwaikh and Doha Port, and several offshore islands. Areas Of Kuwait
Kuwait is divided into six governorates, and in each there are several areas ( ar, مناطِق). Areas are much less commonly called by other names such as districts or towns. However they are commonly known inside the English-speaking community in Kuwait as and are officially translated to ''areas''. The Arabic word for area, ''Mintaqah منطقة'' can mean both mean ''area'' and ''region''. Areas are further subdivided into blocks, each of which is refereed by to a number. All blocks are divided into ''streets شوارع'' (singular شارع šāriʿ). However, some areas may be further subdivided into جادات ''Jaddāt'' (singular ''جادة Jadda''), which might be translated to ''avenue'' or ''lane''.
