Amanat Baghdad Sport Club ( ar, نادي أمانة بغداد الرياضي, lit=Mayoralty of Baghdad) is a football team based in Karkh District, Baghdad, Iraq, that competes in the Iraq Division One, the second tier of Iraqi football. Formed in 1957 as Amanat Al-Asima ( ar, أمانة العاصمة, lit=Capital Mayoralty), the team merged with Al-Baladiyat SC in 1977, who had finished as runners-up of the 1975–76 Iraq FA Cup. History On 1 July 1957, Amanat Al-Asima ( ar, أمانة العاصمة, lit=Capital Mayoralty) were formed to represent the Municipality of Baghdad. Amanat Al-Asima won the Iraq Central FA League title in the 1958–59 season and won the Police Director General Cup twice in 1959 and 1960. In 1977, Amanat Al-Asima merged with Al-Baladiyat SC to form Al-Amana SC ( ar, الأمانة). On 5 August 2009, Al-Amana SC was renamed to Baghdad SC ( ar, بغداد). 1975–76 Iraq FA Cup ...
The 1975–76 Iraq FA Cup was the first edition of the Iraq FA Cup as a clubs-only competition, after the inaugural edition in the 1948–49 season included both clubs and institute-representative teams. The tournament was won by Al-Zawraa, beating Al-Baladiyat 5–0 in the final. Al-Zawraa also won the 1975–76 Iraqi National League to complete the first national double in Iraqi football. Iraq FA Cup
The Iraq FA Cup, known as the Iraq Cup ( ar, كأس العراق) in Arabic, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic Iraqi football. First held in the 1948–49 season for clubs and institutions before returning in 1975–76 for clubs only, it is organised by the Iraq Football Association. The tournament begins with several rounds played between lower division clubs, twelve of which advance to the Round of 32, where the Iraqi Premier League clubs are entered. This is followed by the Round of 16, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final which is played as a single leg in Baghdad. The winners of the competition are awarded a place in the next season's AFC Cup group stage as well as qualifying for the Iraqi Super Cup where they play against the league champions at the start of the following season (or the league runners-up, if the cup winners have won the double). Iraqi Premier League
The Iraqi Premier League ( ar, الدوري العراقي الممتاز) is the top level of the Iraqi football league system. Contested by 20 clubs, it is operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA) and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Iraq Division One. The league was formed by the IFA in 1974 as the Iraqi National Clubs First Division, the first nationwide league of clubs in Iraq. The current format sees 20 teams playing 38 matches each (playing each team in the league twice, home and away), totalling 380 matches in the season. Of the 80 teams to have competed since the inception of the league in 1974, eleven have won the title. Al-Zawraa are the most successful club with 14 titles, followed by Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, Al-Talaba and Al-Shorta, who together contest the Baghdad derbies. The 1967–68 Iraq Central FA Premier League was the 20th season of the Iraq Central FA League (the top division of football in Baghdad and its neighbouring cities from 1948 to 1973). Eight teams competed in the tournament, which was played in a single round-robin format rather than a double round-robin format, so each team only played each other once, and it started on 16 November 1967. The 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup was the eighth Confederations Cup, and was held in South Africa from 14 June to 28 June 2009, as a prelude to the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Jamal Ali Hamza (born 2 February 1956) is an Iraqi football midfielder who played for Iraq in the 1986 FIFA World Cup. He also played for and now coaches Al Minaa. Essam Hamad
Essam Hamad Salem ( ar, عصام حمد سالم; born 22 October 1973) is an Iraqi football coach and former player. He played as a midfielder for Iraq in the 2000 Asian Cup. Essam also played for Al-Karkh, Al-Taawun, and Al-Zawraa at club level. Club level Hamad won the double (league and cup) twice, with Al-Zawraa in the 1994–95 and 1995–96 seasons. International career Having already played for the Iraq Olympic team at the qualifiers for the 1996 Summer Olympics, Hamad began playing for the senior team in 1995. He was a regular at the 1996 AFC Asian Cup and 2000 AFC Asian Cup.
