Akahoya Eruption
The Akahoya eruption was the strongest known volcanic eruption of the Kikai Caldera in Kyūshū, Japan. It ejected about of volcanic material, giving it a Volcanic Explosivity Index of 7. Retrospective dating Archaeologically it has been dated around 7,300 cal.  BP during the earliest stage of the Jōmon period, but it had also been uncorrected radiocarbon dated to as recent as 6,500  BP. The current accepted dating adjustment from multiple other sources is about 7,200 to 7,300 years ago. Aftermath This eruption has been linked to the end of the initial Jōmon culture in southern Kyūshū although impact, although marked, was not as great as some commentary had suggested with Nishinozono sub-type pottery tradition, that had started prior maintained throughout and after the eruption sequence in Kyūshū. Kikai Caldera
(alternatively Kikaiga-shima, Kikai Caldera Complex) is a massive, mostly submerged caldera up to in diameter in the Ōsumi Islands of Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. Geology Caldera formation has been dated from about 95,000 years ago and has involved rhyolite, basalt, and andesite phases. The Kikai Caldera Complex has twin ovoid caldera by in diameter. Yahazu-dake (north west part of Satsuma Io-jima) and Takeshima, located on the caldera rim, are pre-caldera volcanoes. Jōmon People
is the generic name of several peoples who lived in the Japanese archipelago during the Jōmon period (). The Jōmon people may have consisted of multiple groups, which arrived and merged at different times in the Japanese archipelago, using multiple migration routes, rather than a single homogeneous people. Multiple studies on the Jōmon population analyzed the genetic contribution towards modern Japanese. Jōmon samples represented by a specimen obtained from the Funadomari archaeological site on Rebun Island and two specimens obtained from Honshu, show that mainstream Japanese people have inherited an average of 10% Jōmon period ancestry in their genome. The results of a study from 2021 inferred gene flow from the Jōmon period population to the modern Japanese across all migration models tested, with genetic contributions ranging from 8.9 to 11.5%.
