Akademik Cherskiy (ship)
The Akademik Cherskiy (russian: Академик Черский) is a pipe-layer vessel formerly involved in the construction of the Nord Stream II pipeline in the Baltic Sea. History The construction of the ship had two different phases. The initial works began in 2007 and were done by Jiangsu Hantong Heavy Industries near Shanghai in China. The second phase was completed in 2015 in a shipyard in Singapore on orders of a then unknown company. It was originally christened ''Jascon 18.'' Sea Trucks Group (STG), a Dutch- Nigerian joint venture and the Nigerian Walvis International were at times linked to the vessel but these ownerships were not corroborated. In 2016 it was known that the owner of the ship was MRTS, a company linked to Gazprom and completed in Singapore in 2015. MRTS later sold the ship to ''Gazprom Flot'' and Russian newspapers appear to confirm that Gazprom has sold the ship since. Sassnitz (, before 1993 in german: Saßnitz) is a town on the Jasmund peninsula, Rügen Island, in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. The population as of 2012 was 9,498. Sassnitz is a well-known seaside resort and port town, and is a gateway to the nearby Jasmund National Park with its unique chalk cliffs. The decommissioned British submarine HMS ''Otus'' was purchased by a German entrepreneur and towed to Sassnitz to be a floating museum. A common misconception is that the Cape of Good Hope is the southern tip of Africa, based on the misbelief that the Cape was the dividing point between the Atlantic and Indian oceans, and have nothing to do with north or south. In fact, by looking at a map, the southernmost point of Africa is Cape Agulhas about to the east-southeast. The currents of the two oceans meet at the point where the warm-water Agulhas current meets the cold-water Benguela current and turns back on itself. Nakhodka ( rus, Нахо́дка, p=nɐˈxotkə) is a port city in Primorsky Krai, Russia, located on the Trudny Peninsula jutting into the Nakhodka Bay of the Sea of Japan, about east of Vladivostok, the administrative center of the krai.
