Airport
An airport is an aerodrome with extended facilities, mostly for commercial air transport. San Cristóbal Airport
San Cristóbal Airport is an airport on the island of San Cristóbal, in the Galápagos Islands of Ecuador. The airport is on the southwestern end of the island, with rising terrain to the northeast. Approaches to both runways are over the ocean. The San Cristobal non-directional beacon (Ident: SCR) and VOR-DME (Ident: SCV) are located on the field. In June 2019, the Ecuadorian government gave permission for the US military to use the airfield as a base, leading to widespread outcry. San Cristóbal Island
San Cristóbal Island ( es, Isla San Cristóbal) and named previously by the English as ''Chatham Island'', is the easternmost island in the Galápagos archipelago, as well as one of the oldest geologically. It is administratively part of San Cristóbal Canton, Ecuador. Its Spanish (and official Ecuadorian) name "San Cristóbal" comes from the patron saint of seafarers, St. Christopher. English speakers increasingly use that name in preference to the traditional English name of Chatham Island, derived from William Pitt, 1st Earl of Chatham. History San Cristobal Island is composed of three or four fused volcanoes, all extinct. It is home to the oldest permanent settlement of the islands and is the island where Darwin first went ashore in 1835. A small lake called El Junco is the only source of fresh water in the islands. General Ulpiano Paez Airport is a public/military joint-use airport serving the coastal city of Salinas, in the Santa Elena Province of Ecuador. The city and airport are on a peninsula extending into the Pacific Ocean. The Salinas non-directional beacon (Ident: SLS) and VOR-DME (Ident: SAV) are located on the field. The Province of Santa Elena () is a province of Ecuador in the coastal region. Created in 2007 from territory that belonged to the Guayas Province, it is one of the two newest provinces of Ecuador, along with Santo Domingo de Los Tsáchilas. Salinas is a coastal city located in the Santa Elena Province, Ecuador, Province of Santa Elena, Ecuador. It is the seat of the canton that bears its name. The westernmost city on mainland Ecuador, Salinas is an important tourism, tourist center. Eloy Alfaro International Airport is a combination civilian airport and military air base on the Pacific coast near Manta, a city in the Manabí Province of Ecuador. The airport, also known as Eloy Alfaro Air Base, is named in honor of Eloy Alfaro, a former president of Ecuador. It was inaugurated by the Ecuadorian Air Force on October 24, 1978. Manta, Ecuador
Manta, also known as San Pablo de Manta, is an Ecuadorian city; cantonal head of the Manta Canton, as well as the largest and most populated city in the Manabí Province. It is the tenth most populous in the country. Manta has existed since Pre-Columbian times. It was a trading post for the Manta, also known as Manteños. According to the 2001 census, the city had 192,322 inhabitants. In the 21st century, its main economic activity is tuna fishing. Other economic activities include tourism and a chemical industry, with products ranging from cleaning supplies to oils and margarine. Cotopaxi International Airport ( es, Aeropuerto Internacional Cotopaxi) is a high-elevation airport in Latacunga, the capital of the Cotopaxi Province in Ecuador. The airport is within a broad valley of the Ecuadoran Andes, with rising terrain east and west, and mountainous terrain distant in all quadrants. It has the second longest runway in Ecuador. Runway length includes a displaced threshold on Runway 19.
