Air Cadet League Of Canada
The Air Cadet League of Canada is a volunteer organization that provides financial support and oversight to the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. The Air Cadet League owns all of the aircraft used in the Air Cadet Gliding Program. The League is organized into three levels: the National, the Provincial, and the local level, each of which is responsible for different areas of the League. History The inception of the Air Cadet League of Canada took place at the start of the Second World War when Minister of National Defence for Air, Charles Gavan Power, Charles G. Power, identified a need to develop a volunteer-based organization with the goal to train youth in aviation skills. ''Air Cadets'' (also known as ''Air Cadet'') is a 15-minute 1944 Canadian documentary film, made by the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) as part of the wartime ''Canada Carries On'' series. The film describes the Air Cadet Movement in 1944 during the Second World War. ''Air Cadets'' was directed by Jane Marsh, who was also the writer and editor on the production. The Cadet Instructors Cadre (CIC; french: Cadre des instructeurs de cadets) consists of approximately 7,500 Canadian Forces (CF) officers whose primary duty is the safety, supervision, administration and training of Royal Canadian Sea, Army, and Air Cadets. The branch is the largest single group within the Canadian Forces reserve force subcomponent Cadet Organizations Administration and Training Service (COATS) and is the largest officer branch in the Canadian Forces. It is also the only branch of the Canadian Armed Forces that doesn't require its officer to hold or be in the process of obtaining a post secondary degree. Chris Austin Hadfield (born August 29, 1959) is a Canadian retired astronaut, engineer, fighter pilot, and musician. The first Canadian to perform extravehicular activity in outer space, he has flown two Space Shuttle missions and also served as commander of the International Space Station (ISS). Prior to his career as an astronaut, he served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 25 years as an Air Command fighter pilot. Charles Gavan Power
Charles Gavan "Chubby" Power, (18 January 1888 – 30 May 1968) was a Canadian politician and ice hockey player. Many members of his family, including his father, two brothers, a son and a grandson, all had political careers; two of his brothers also played ice hockey. Early life Born in Sillery, Power played ice hockey while studying law. From 1906, he played for the Quebec Bulldogs of the Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association (ECAHA). A proficient scorer, he scored four goals in one game in 1908 and five goals in a game in 1909. Air Cadet Gliding Program
The Air Cadet Gliding Program is a youth gliding program operated by the Canadian Forces (CF) and the Air Cadet League of Canada for the benefit of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. The program is managed by CF officers (most of whom are CIC officers), and is the largest producer of glider pilots in Canada. Cadets age 16-19 are trained at the five summer Regional Gliding Schools, and about 320 cadets receive their glider pilot license each year. Outside of the Regional Gliding Schools, the local headquarters provide the opportunity for cadets to participate in gliding familiarization flying during the spring and fall — approximately 22,000 flights are completed.
