William George Ainslie JP (9 January 1832 – 10 February 1893) was a British Conservative politician, magistrate, ironmaster and stockbroker. Early life Born in 1832 in Bengal, India, and educated at Sedbergh School,Obituary of William George Ainslie in ''The Journal of the Iron and Steel Institute'' vol. 43 (1893), p. 172 Ainslie was a son of Montague Ainslie (1792–1884), a native of Kendal in Westmorland. Robert Ainslie (1766–1838) was a Scottish lawyer, and one of Robert Burns's long-term friends from his Edinburgh days. He was probably the closest confidant of Burns, whom he met first at a Masonic or Crochallan Fencibles event. Ainslie accompanied the poet on the first part of his Border Tour. Robert's father, also Robert, was a lawyer a bailie at Duns and a land-steward on Lord Douglas's Berwickshire estates. Robert married Jean Cunningham on 22 December 1798. Paul Ainslie ( ; born February 4, 1967) is a city councillor in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In 2006, he was appointed as an interim councillor in ward 41, and was then elected as the councillor for Ward 43 in Scarborough East. On October 22, 2018 he was elected as Councillor for Ward 24 Scarborough-Guildwood. On February 1, 2006, City Council appointed Ainslie to fill the vacancy in Ward 41 that was created when Bas Balkissoon was elected in a provincial by-election in the riding of Scarborough—Rouge River. A condition of the appointment was that he would not run as a candidate in the 2006 election. Montague Ainslie (28 April 1792 – 1 February 1884) was an English forester and businessman whose interests included the iron ore company Harrison Ainslie. Early life and education Son of Henry Ainslie, MD, and Agnes, daughter of William Ford, of Coniston Water Head and Grizedale, Ainslie was educated at Hawkshead Grammar School and at Sedbergh School, later studying at Charterhouse School and Haileybury and Imperial Service College.
