Abbeydorney GAA Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association is an Irish hurling club from North County Kerry near Tralee, Ireland. History Abbeydorney are one of the oldest clubs in Kerry. The club was founded in 1885. They have won Senior County Championships in 1893, 1895, 1913, 1974. The official opening of the Abbeydorney GAA Club sportsfield took place on 15 May 1977 were Kerry played Galway in Hurling and Austin Stacks played Caltra in Football. In 2009 the club hosted the first Hurling game in Kerry to be played under lights in a North Kerry League game with Ballyheigue. Abbeydorney () is a village in County Kerry, Ireland. Located north of the county town of Tralee, the village had a population of 418 as of the 2016 census of Ireland. Abbeydorney falls within the civil parish of O'Dorney. History Abbey The name of the village derives from the translation of the Irish Mainistir Ó dTorna - in English O'Dorney Abbey - which was the Cistercian Order Abbeydorney Abbey, established in 1154 and located north of the village. The Kerry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), or Kerry GAA, is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland. It is responsible for Gaelic games in County Kerry, and for the Kerry county teams. The Kerry branch of the Gaelic Athletic Association was founded in the year 1888. Football is the dominant sport in the county, with both the men's and women's teams among the strongest in the country at senior level. Christy Ring Cup
The Christy Ring Cup () is an annual hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. Originally introduced as a second-tier competition, it is currently the third tier overall in the inter-county hurling championship system. Each year, the champions of the Christy Ring Cup are promoted to the Joe McDonagh Cup, and the lowest finishing team is relegated to the Nicky Rackard Cup. Kildare are the 2022 title-holders. The competition is named in honour of Christy Ring, a legendary player from Cork. The Christy Ring Cup, which was introduced in 2005, replaced the All-Ireland B Hurling Championship (1974-2004). Kerry Senior Hurling Championship
The Kerry Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as Garvey's SuperValu Senior Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Kerry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1889 for the top hurling teams in the county of Kerry in Ireland. The series of games are played during the summer months, with the county final currently being played in Austin Stack Park in August. Initially played a knock-out competition, the championship currently uses a double elimination format whereby each team is guaranteed at least two games. The 2020 championship reverted to a straight knock-out format due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Kerry County Championship is an integral part of the wider Munster Intermediate Club Hurling Championship. Lixnaw Hurling Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in the north of County Kerry, Republic of Ireland, Ireland.
