Ahuntsic was a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1968 to 1979 and from 1988 to 2015. Geography The district included the neighbourhoods of Ahuntsic and Bordeaux-Cartierville and the western part of the neighbourhood of Sault-au-Recollet in the Borough of Ahuntsic-Cartierville. Prior to being abolished, its neighbouring ridings were Papineau, Mount Royal, Saint-Laurent—Cartierville, Laval, Alfred-Pellan, Bourassa, and Saint-Léonard—Saint-Michel. History The electoral district of Ahuntsic was created in 1966 from Saint-Denis and Laval ridings. In 1976, it was abolished when it was redistributed into Saint-Michel riding. Maria Mourani
Maria Mourani (born May 19, 1969) is a Canadian politician who was elected as a Member of Parliament in the federal riding of Ahuntsic in Canada. She was formerly a member of the Bloc Québécois before leaving the party over its support for the proposed Quebec Charter of Values. She joined the New Democratic Party in November 2014 but was not a member of the party's caucus due to the party's policy against crossing the floor; she stood for the NDP in the 2015 Canadian federal election, but did not win. Mourani was the first woman of Lebanese origin elected to the Canadian House of Commons. In 2017, she became the Quebec representative in the Permanent Delegation of Canada at UNESCO. Its population in 2016 was 101,032. Geography The district includes Montreal North and the eastern part of the neighbourhood of Sault-au-Récollet in the Borough of Ahuntsic-Cartierville. Eleni Bakopanos, (born May 10, 1954 in Argos, Greece) is a Canadian politician. Bakopanos was a member of the Liberal Party of Canada in the House of Commons of Canada, representing the riding of Ahuntsic from 1997 to 2006, and Saint-Denis from 1993 to 1997 and is the first Greek-born woman to be elected to Parliament. Bakopanos has been an executive, and a policy adviser. Formerly Assistant Deputy Chairman of Committees of the Whole, and a former Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada (1997–1999). Bakopanos was named Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Social Development with special emphasis on Social Economy on July 20, 2004. Saint-Michel (also known as Saint-Michel—Ahuntsic) was a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1968 to 1988. This riding was created in 1966 from portions of Mercier and Papineau ridings. From 1966 to 1979 it encompassed the neighbourhood of Saint-Michel and the then independent city of Saint-Leonard.
