Ahrntal
Ahrntal (; it, Valle Aurina ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in South Tyrol in northern Italy, located about northeast of the city of Bolzano (''Bozen''), on the border with Austria. Geography Ahrntal borders the following municipalities: Mühlwald, Prettau, Sand in Taufers, Brandberg (Austria), Finkenberg (Austria), and Mayrhofen (Austria). Frazioni The municipality of Ahrntal contains the ''frazioni'' (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Luttach (Lutago), Steinhaus (Cadipietra), St. Jakob (San Giacomo), St. Johann (San Giovanni), St. Peter (San Pietro) and Weißenbach (Riobianco). Weißenbach is composed of picturesque alpine farmhouses, grouped around the foaming white glacial stream from which its name is derived. Speikboden (Zillertal Alps)
Speikboden is a massif in the Central Eastern Alps located between the three valleys Weißenbach, Mühlwald and Ahrntal. Running in a south-easterly direction, it forms the eastern part of an outlier of the western Zillertal Alps. Its highest point, likewise named Speikboden, is 2,517 m. Further well-known peaks in this massif include Seewassernock (2,516 m), Große Nock (2,400 m), Kleine Nock (2,227 m) and Gornerberg (2,475 m). Villages in the valley include Lappach, Luttach, Mühlwald, Sand in Taufers, St. Johann and Weißenbach. Skiing and hiking area The Speikboden massif is home to an extensive ski area of the same name with downhill runs leading all the way to ''Drittelsand'' at the far end of the Ahrntal valley. Zillertal Alps
The Zillertal Alps ( it, Alpi Aurine; german: Zillertaler Alpen) are a mountain range of the Central Eastern Alps on the border of Austria and Italy. Name The range is named after the Zillertal (Ziller river valley) on its north. Napfspitze (Ahrntal)
The Napfspitze (, also called the ''Dreiecketer'', it, Cima Cadini), is a peak on the main chain of the Zillertal Alps and on the border between the Austrian federal state of Tyrol and the Italian province of South Tyrol. Geography The Napfspitze lies north of St. Peter in the Tauferer Ahrntal valley and south of the Zillergrund bottom. The long ridge of ''Riblerkamm'' branches from the main chain of the Zillertal Alps at the Napfspitze heading in a northerly direction. Along the ridge are two more peaks that exceed 3,000 metres in height: an unnamed 3,103-metre-summit and, further south, the ''Hohe Warte'' at 3,095 metres. Durreck
The Durreck (, also called the ''Durreckspitze'', it, Cima Dura) is the highest mountain in the Durreck Group, a South Tyrolean range that divides the Ahrntal valley in the north from the Reintal valley in the south. Location The Durreck lies on the main chain of the mountains that runs from northeast to southwest. This main crest forks only about 100 metres to the southwest at the nearby subpeak of the ''Zwieselnöckl'' (3,088 m). One branch runs southwards to the Großer Moosstock (3,059 m) and the other northwards, via the Klausnock (2,819 m), Rauchkofel (2,653 m) and Pojenspitze (2,453 m) near the Obersteiner Holm (2,395 m) above Luttach. Northeast of the Durreck at a distance of half a kilometre is a very prominent, but unnamed subpeak at 3,056 metres. Sand in Taufers (; it, Campo Tures ) is a ''comune mercato'' (market town) in South Tyrol in northern Italy. Geography Located about northeast of Bolzano, the town centre is situated in the Tauferer Ahrntal (Taufers) valley of the Ahr river, stretching from Bruneck in Pustertal up northwards to the Venediger Group mountains of the Hohe Tauern range and the border with Austria. Luttach
Luttach ( it, Lutago) is a mountain village in northern Italy. It is a ''frazione'' of the ''comune'' of Ahrntal in South Tyrol. It is a popular tourist destination in all seasons and boasts several hotels, as well as numerous shops and an indoor swimming pool. Hiking and rafting on the river Ahr are on offer during the summer months, while the two nearby ski areas of Klausberg and Speikboden cater to winter sports enthusiasts. Geography It nestles in the crease of a sharp alpine valley, at an elevation of some 970 m above sea level. Durreck Group
The Durreck Group in South Tyrol is an independent mountain range within the Venediger Group. To the north and west it is bounded by the Tauferer Ahrntal, behind which the peaks of the Zillertal Alps stand. To the south it is separated by the valley of Reintal from the Rieserferner Group. The Ochsenlenke (2,623 m) forms the eastern end of the Durreck Group where the rocky ridge drops to almost 2,600 m and completely disappears under the rolling depositional landscape. From the Schneespitze (2,925 m) the first peaks and glaciers of the rest of the Venediger Group appear and link to the main chain of the High Tauern, whose orographically western foothills are therefore the Durreck Group. The Alpine Club classification of the Eastern Alps also counts the range as part of the Venediger Group. The Durreck Group lies entirely within the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park. Venediger Group
The Venediger Group (german: Venedigergruppe) is a mountain range of the Central Eastern Alps. Together with the Granatspitze Group, the Glockner Group, the Goldberg Group, and the Ankogel Group, it forms the main ridge of the High Tauern. The highest peak is the Großvenediger at , which gives its name to the group. Considerable parts of the Venediger Group belong to the core zone of the High Tauern National parks of Austria, National Park.
