Aguasabon River Rats
The Aguasabon River Rats were a Junior "B" ice hockey team based out of Terrace Bay, Ontario. They played out of the North of Superior Junior B Hockey League (NSHL) and the Thunder Bay Junior B Hockey League. History The Aguasabon River Rats played in every season of the NSHL's history. The River Rats always did well, but from 1999-00 until 2001-02 the River Rats were the best in the league—three straight championships. The team even earned the right to play for the Western Canadian Junior "B" title, the Keystone Cup, on two occasions. The 1999–00 season was remarkable in that not only did the team win its first ever league title, but it also completed a perfect undefeated regular season. After the 2003–04 season, the River Rats and Thessalon Flyers chose not to pursue another season in the NSHL. Terrace Bay
Terrace Bay is a township in Thunder Bay District in northern Ontario, Canada, located on the north shore of Lake Superior east of Thunder Bay along Ontario Highway 17, Highway 17. The name originates from a series of lake Terrace (geology), terraces formed as the water level in Lake Superior lowered following the Last Glacial Period, latest ice age. History Terrace Bay originated as a company town in the 1940s when a pulp and paper mill was established there by the Longlac Pulp & Paper Company, later renamed Kimberly-Clark Forest Products. North Of Superior Junior B Hockey League
The North of Superior Junior B Hockey League (NSHL) is a defunct Junior ice hockey league in Ontario, Canada, sanctioned by Hockey Canada. The league used to be a part of the Northern Ontario Hockey Association. History The North of Superior Junior B Hockey League was the brain-child of Chris Joubert of Terrace Bay, Ontario. He served as president of the NSHL for its first two years before stepping down due to work commitments. Claude Montfort of Marathon, Ontario took over after him. The league occupied most of the same zone as the old International Junior B Hockey League. The first season, 1996–97, the league consisted of the Aguasabon River Rats, Longlac Merchants, Marathon Renegades, and Wawa Travellers. Thunder Bay Junior B Hockey League
The Lakehead Junior Hockey League is a Canadian Junior ice hockey league in Northwestern Ontario, sanctioned by Hockey Northwestern Ontario and Hockey Canada. An earlier edition of this league existed in the 1970s. The Thunder Bay-based league has produced three Keystone Cup Western Canada Junior "B" champion and six Brewers Cup Western Canada Junior "C" champions. History Formerly referred to as the Thunder Bay Junior B/Juvenile/AAA Hockey League, the LJHL league has, in the past, mixed itself with Juvenile and Midget "AAA" teams in the Thunder Bay region for regular season games. Keystone Cup
The Keystone Cup is the Junior B ice hockey championship and trophy for Western Canada. From 1983 to 2017, the championship was the culmination of the champions of 12 hockey leagues in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Northwestern Ontario. In 2018, citing costs for travel and accommodations, British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan withdrew from competition for the Keystone Cup, making it a championship between Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. Thessalon Flyers
The Thessalon Flyers were a Junior "A" ice hockey team from Thessalon, Ontario, Canada. Over its history, this defunct hockey team was a part of the International Junior B Hockey League, followed by the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League, and lastly the North of Superior Junior B Hockey League. History The North Shore Stars joined the International Junior B Hockey League in 1967 when the Elliot Lake Vikings went on hiatus. In 1972, they changed their name to the Thessalon North Stars and a year later to the Flyers. The Flyers played in 3 seasons in the NOJHL starting in 1987. The addition of the Flyers helped break the league from an interlocking schedule with the OHA Jr. "A" League, which otherwise would have probably fatally crippled the NOJHL. Wawa Travellers
The Wawa Travellers were a Junior "B" team based out of Wawa, Ontario. They played in the North of Superior Junior B Hockey League. History The Travellers played in all eight of the NSHL's seasons. After a slow start, the team moved through the standings and in their final two seasons they topped the league, winning the league championship, in both 2002-03 and 2003-04. Despite two championships, the Travellers finished their story in 2004 with a 4-straight-losses to the Thunder Bay Northern Hawks of Thunder Bay Junior B Hockey League in the Northern Ontario Regional Junior B Hockey Championship. Marathon Renegades
The Marathon Renegades were a Junior "A" ice hockey team from Marathon, Ontario. They were currently members of the Superior International Junior Hockey League. History They were members of the North of Superior Junior B Hockey League from 1996 until 2004. There was some speculation as to whether or not the team were known as the Marathon Renegades or the North Shore Renegades in the 2006-07 season. When reached for comment, the league stated that they are still currently known as the Marathon Renegades. The Renegades had their official "roll-out" on July 7 in Marathon.
