Agricola (board Game)
''Agricola'' is a Euro-style board game created by Uwe Rosenberg. It is a worker placement game with a focus on resource management. In ''Agricola'', players are farmers who sow, plow the fields, collect wood, build stables, buy animals, expand their farms and feed their families. After 14 rounds players calculate their score based on the size and prosperity of the household. The game was published by Lookout Games and released at Spiel 2007, where it was voted second-best game shown at the convention, according to the ''Fairplay'' in-show voting. The game was released in English by Z-Man Games in July 2008. Playdek released an iOS conversion of the game in June 2013. A second edition of ''Agricola'' was published by Mayfair Games in May 2016. ''Agricola'' won the Spiel des Jahres special award for "Best complex game 2008" and the 2008 Deutscher Spiele Preis. Uwe Rosenberg
Uwe Rosenberg (born 27 March 1970) is a German game designer and the co-founder of Lookout Games. He initially became known for his card game ''Bohnanza'', which was successful both in Germany and internationally. He is known for complex economic strategy games, including ''Agricola (board game), Agricola'' and ''A Feast for Odin (board game), A Feast for Odin.'' Works Born in Aurich, Germany, Rosenberg first began to occupy himself with the development and mechanisms of games at the age of 12. He published a number of play-by-mail games during his school years. While he was still in college, Amigo Spiele, Amigo published his first major success, ''Bohnanza''. Since finishing his statistics studies in Dortmund (the subject of his thesis was "Probability distributions in Memory (game), Memory"), his main occupation is the development of games. Spiel Des Jahres
The Spiel des Jahres (, ''Game of the Year'') is an award for board and card games, created in 1978 with the purpose of rewarding family-friendly game design, and promoting excellent games in the German market. It is thought that the existence and popularity of the award was one of the major drivers of the quality of games coming out of Germany, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s. A ''Spiel des Jahres'' nomination can increase the typical sales of a game from 500–3,000 copies to around 10,000, and the winner can usually expect to sell as many as 500,000 copies. Digital Games Research Association (DiGRA) is a nonprofit international learned society whose work focuses on game studies and associated activities. DiGRA was formally established in 2003 in Finland. It is a leading academic organization in the field of digital games. Frans Mäyrä was the founding president from 2003 to 2006.
