Agnese Maffeis
Agnese Maffeis (born 9 March 1965, in Bergamo) is an Italian discus thrower and shot putter. She won six medals, at senior level, at the International athletics competitions. She has 73 caps in national team from 1981 to 2003, second Italian athlete of all-time behind Marisa Masullo that have 79 caps. Biography She finished twelfth at the 1989 World Indoor Championships and eighth at the 1997 World Championships. She also competed in the 1996 Olympics, but failed to qualify from her pool. At the Mediterranean Games she won gold medals in shot put in 1987 and 1993 and in discus in 1991 and 1993. She won a silver medal in shot put in 1991 and in discus in 2001. Her personal best throw currently stands at 63.66 metres, achieved in June 1996 in Milan. She is married to Alessandro Andrei. Marisa Masullo (born 8 May 1959) is a former Italian athlete, who mainly competed in the 100 metres and 200 metres. Biography Masullo was born in Milan, Italy and competed for Italy at three Olympic Games, in Moscow 1980, Los Angeles 1984 and Seoul 1988. She was a three-time gold medal winner in the 200 m at the Mediterranean Games She also won a silver medal in the 200 m at the 1981 Universiade and a bronze medal in the 60 metres at the 1983 European Indoor Championships. Alessandro Andrei (born 3 January 1959) is an Italian former shot putter. He was born in Florence. Biography Andrei threw with his right hand, using the glide technique (at time many elite-level shot putters had switched to the spin/rotation style.) Andrei won the gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles, California. In 1987 he broke the world record three times in the same competition with successive throws of 22.72, 22.84 & 22.91 m (and finishing the sequence with a throw of 22.74 m). He was the first athlete in history to have a shot put series with all 6 throws over 22 meters, an accomplishment that wasn't repeated until 2020 by Ryan Crouser. He is married to Agnese Maffeis.
