The Agency for Defense Policy and Technology Development (, BPKTP) is an agency subordinate to the Indonesian Ministry of Defense. The agency tasked to perform research and development in defense and military affairs. The agency can be considered as military counterpart of the National Research and Innovation Agency (, BRIN). History 1967-1983 On 24 August 1967, Suharto signed Presidential Decision No. 132/1967 (On Changes in Organization Fundamentals and Procedures in Field of Defense and Security). The decision reorganized the Republic of Indonesia Armed Forces. It was decided to form a military research institute within the Armed Forces, Defense and Security Research and Development Institute (, Lalitbanghankam). Lalitbanghankam was placed under the Armed Forces HQ. A military satellite is an artificial satellite used for a military purpose. The most common missions are intelligence gathering, navigation and military communications. The first military satellites were photographic reconnaissance missions. Some attempts were made to develop satellite based weapons but this work was halted in 1967 following the ratification of international treaties banning the deployment of weapons of mass destruction in orbit.
