''Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence'', known in Japan as just , is a 2004 Japanese animated cyberpunk film written and directed by Mamoru Oshii. The film serves as a standalone sequel to Oshii's 1995 film ''Ghost in the Shell'' and is loosely based on the manga by Masamune Shirow. The film was co-produced by Production I.G and Studio Ghibli for Tokuma Shoten, Nippon Television Network, Dentsu, Buena Vista Home Entertainment, Toho and D-Rights, and distributed by Toho. It was released in Japan on March 6, 2004, and was later released in the US on September 17, 2004 by Go Fish Pictures. The film's US box office performance had exceeded Go Fish Pictures' expectation. ''Innocence'' received the 2004 Nihon SF Taisho Award. It was also in competition at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival, making it the first and only anime in history to compete for the Palme d'Or. Mamoru Oshii
is a Japanese filmmaker, television director and writer. Famous for his philosophy-oriented storytelling, Oshii has directed a number of acclaimed anime films, including ''Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer'' (1984), ''Angel's Egg'' (1985), ''Patlabor 2: The Movie'' (1993), and ''Ghost in the Shell (1995 film), Ghost in the Shell'' (1995). He also holds the distinction of having created the first ever OVA, ''Dallos'' (1983). As a writer, Oshii has worked as a screenwriter, and occasionally as a mangaka, manga writer and novelist. Yakuza
, also known as , are members of transnational organized crime syndicates originating in Japan. A gynoid, or fembot, is a feminine humanoid robot. Gynoids appear widely in science fiction film and art. As more realistic humanoid robot design becomes technologically possible, they are also emerging in real-life robot design. Togusa
is the second most prominently featured male character in Masamune Shirow's ''Ghost in the Shell'' manga and anime series. In ''Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Stand Alone Complex'', as well as the original ''Ghost in the Shell (1995 film), Ghost in the Shell'' film, it is stated that he is the youngest member of Section 9 and the only family man. His voice is provided by Kōichi Yamadera in most of his appearances, while Hirotaka Suzuoki provides his voice in the ''Ghost in the Shell (video game), Ghost in the Shell'' PlayStation game. Ng Chin Han, Chin Han portrayed Togusa in the Ghost in the Shell (2017 film), 2017 film. Batou
is a main male character in Masamune Shirow's ''Ghost in the Shell'' series. He is the second-best melee fighter in Section 9,Official Log 1, page 23. and is the second in command under Major Motoko Kusanagi. He is a battle-hardened cyborg special operative with a long distinguished military career and a no-nonsense attitude. Though he looks imposing, he is known for his warm heart, sense of humor, and love for animals. Conception and creation Batou's serves as pointman whose combat specialty is " near combat." Batou often acts as the Section 9 team's comedic relief. Background Batou's limbs are all prosthetic; despite the fact that exercise provides negligible benefit, Batou enjoys jogging and weightlifting as a hobby.
