After The Curfew
''Lewat Djam Malam'' (shown internationally as ''After the Curfew'') is a 1954 Indonesian film directed and produced by Usmar Ismail and written by Asrul Sani. Widely regarded as a classic of Indonesian cinema, the film follows an ex-soldier in his vigilante actions against corruption. Plot Shortly after the Dutch recognise Indonesia's independence in 1949, the military in Bandung, West Java, establishes a curfew. Iskandar (A.N. Alcaff) has been released from the Indonesian Armed Forces and is almost shot when he arrives in Bandung. He stays at the home of his fiancée Norma (Netty Herawaty) and her family. Usmar Ismail
Usmar Ismail (20 March 1921 – 2 January 1971) was an Indonesian film director, author, journalist and revolutionary of Minangkabau descent. He was widely regarded as the native Indonesian pioneer of the cinema of Indonesia. Biography Ismail was born in 1921 in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra. His father, Datuk Tumenggung Ismail, taught at the medical school in Padang. His brother Abu Hanifah was also a well-known revolutionary and writer. Ismail attended ASM-A Yogyakarta and later obtained a B.A. in cinematography from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1952. Ismail initially served in the army during the Dutch colonial rule. He served in the Indonesian army in Yogyakarta. ''Tarmina'' is a 1954 Indonesian film directed by Lilik Sudjio. It stars Fifi Young, A. Hadi and Endang Kusdiningsih. It received five awards at the first Indonesian Film Festival in 1955, including Best Film, Best Director for Lilik Sudjio, Best Leading Actor for A. Hadi, Best Leading Actress for Fifi Young, and Supporting Actress for Endang Kusdiningsih. Plot After her husband Hadi loses all of his money, Tarmina divorces him and abandons their family, including a young daughter. Lilik Sudjio (14 May 1930 – 9 December 2014) was an Indonesian actor turned film director who won the Citra Award for Best Director in 1955 for his film ''Tarmina''. He was involved in 74 feature film productions since his debut in Fred Young's '' Saputangan'' in 1949. Biography Lilik was born in Makassar, Dutch East Indies, on 14 May 1930 to Astaman and his wife. Taking the pseudonym Astaman Jr., Lilik began his stage career as a teenager during the Indonesian National Revolution, joining the Bintang Timoer troupe with his father under the leadership of Djamaluddin Malik. In photography, a negative is an image, usually on a strip or sheet of transparent plastic film, in which the lightest areas of the photographed subject appear darkest and the darkest areas appear lightest. This reversed order occurs because the extremely light-sensitive chemicals a camera film must use to capture an image quickly enough for ordinary picture-taking are darkened, rather than bleached, by exposure to light and subsequent photographic processing.
