Afro Samurai (video Game)
''Afro Samurai'' is an action video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, loosely based on the manga and anime series of the same name. It was announced in the February 2008 issue of ''Play'' magazine and released on January 27, 2009. The game was developed by Namco Bandai Games and in North America, it was the first (and would end up being the only) game published under their western label, Surge. In Europe and Australia the game was released under the Namco brand instead and was distributed by Atari Europe. Gameplay ''Afro Samurai'' is a 3D brawler with platforming elements. Most levels culminate in a boss fight, which become more frequent as the game progresses. The game features a cel-shaded animation style. In a combat system designed by Monty Oum, the player will use hits, kicks, and sword slashes against various enemies. Swordsmanship or sword fighting refers to the skills and techniques used in combat and training with any type of sword. Monty Oum
Monyreak Oum ( ; June 22, 1981 – February 1, 2015) was an American web-based animator and writer. Oum attracted attention within the gaming community after releasing an animated video in 2007, titled ''Haloid'', where characters from the ''Halo'' and ''Metroid'' video game franchises fight against each other'','' which went viral. In October of the same year, he released a follow-up, ''Dead Fantasy''. Oum began working for Rooster Teeth, serving as the lead animator for '' Red vs. Blue'', and creating the original animated series ''RWBY''. Cel-shaded Animation
Cel shading or toon shading is a type of non-photorealistic rendering designed to make 3-D computer graphics appear to be flat by using less shading color instead of a shade gradient or tints and shades. A cel shader is often used to mimic the style of a comic book or cartoon and/or give the render a characteristic paper-like texture. There are similar techniques that can make an image look like a sketch, an oil painting or an ink painting. The name comes from ''cels'' (short for celluloid), clear sheets of acetate which were painted on for use in traditional 2D animation.
