Afrika Baby Bam
Nathaniel Hall, better known by his stage name Afrika Baby Bam, is an American hip hop artist, born in Brooklyn, New York, and was part of the hip-hop group the Jungle Brothers. He was named in honor of Afrika Bambaataa. He is also known as Afrika, Baby Bam, and most recently B.A.M. He now travels the world as a nomad. Music career Bam started out as a member of the Jungle Brothers. The group was formed in 1986 with his friends from Brooklyn, Mike G and Sammy B. Their first hit was "Straight out the Jungle" followed by the dance music hit "I’ll House You." Bam also helped form the hip-hop super group Native Tongues whose members included Queen Latifah and Q-Tip. The Jungle Brothers' first concert was at Wembley Stadium to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s release from prison. XYZ Records
XYZ Records was a record label founded by Frank Slay and Bob Crewe, mainly as an outlet for their songs. The label opened in 1957 and was active until about 1960. Their only success was with The Rays "Silhouettes" that was taken over for national distribution by Cameo Records in Philadelphia. The initial XYZ recordings were numbered 100 through to 106. In late 1958, United Artists financed the reactivation of XYZ, and The Rays once again were in the studios re-recording one of their earlier songs "Elevator Operator/Souvenir of Summertime", which was released as number 2001. Further recordings in this period were numbered 600 through to 611, all without much success. Lance Taylor (born on April 17, 1957), also known as Afrika Bambaataa (), is an American DJ, rapper, and producer from the South Bronx, New York. He is notable for releasing a series of genre-defining electro tracks in the 1980s that influenced the development of hip hop culture. Afrika Bambaataa is one of the originators of breakbeat DJing. Through his co-opting of the street gang the Black Spades into the music and culture-oriented Universal Zulu Nation, he has helped spread hip hop culture throughout the world. Jungle Brothers
Jungle Brothers are an American hip hop trio composed of Michael Small (Mike Gee), Nathaniel Hall (Afrika Baby Bam), and Sammy Burwell (DJ Sammy B). Known as the pioneers of the fusion of jazz, hip-hop, and house music, they were the first hip-hop group to collaborate with a house-music producer. Kamaal Ibn John Fareed (born Jonathan William Davis, April 10, 1970), better known by his stage name Q-Tip, is an American rapper, record producer, singer, and DJ. Native Tongues
The Native Tongues were a collective of late 1980s and early 1990s hip-hop artists known for their positive-minded, good-natured Afrocentric lyrics, and for pioneering the use of eclectic sampling and jazz-influenced beats. Its principal members were the Jungle Brothers, De La Soul, and A Tribe Called Quest. The collective was also closely tied to the Universal Zulu Nation.
