Africans in Hong Kong constitute a small number of total residents in Hong Kong. Population There were 3,144 Africans living in Hong Kong in 2016 according to the Africa Center Hong Kong, 2,012 male and 1,132 females. This includes migrants from Southern Africa, who number around 200 residents and consist mainly of Africans of European origin. Africans began settling in Hong Kong in the 1990s, arrivals typically being businessmen coming to Hong Kong to engage in trading activities, or to make deals with Mainland China through a middleman. Many stayed, resulting in the majority of people of African descent currently residing in Hong Kong. Africans In Guangzhou
Africans in Guangzhou (, more colloquially ) are African immigrants and African Chinese residents of Guangzhou, China. Beginning during the late 1990s economic boom, an influx of thousands of African traders and business people, predominantly from West Africa, arrived in Guangzhou and created an African community in the middle of the southern Chinese metropolis. In 2012, it was estimated that there were more than 100,000 Africans living in Guangzhou, but most of them stayed for a very short time. Since 2014, the city's African population has significantly declined due to strict immigration enforcement by Chinese authorities and economic pressures in home countries including depreciation of the Nigerian naira and Angolan kwanza. Chungking Mansions
Chungking Mansions is a building located at 36–44 Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong. Though the building was supposed to be residential, it is made up of many independent low-budget hotels, shops and other services. As well as selling to the public, the stalls in the building cater to wholesalers shipping goods to Africa and South Asia. The unusual atmosphere of the building is sometimes compared to that of the former Kowloon Walled City. Chungking Mansions features guesthouses, curry restaurants, African bistros, clothing shops, sari stores, and foreign exchange offices.
