Aeronaut Records
Aeronaut Records is an independently owned record label based in Los Angeles, California which was founded in 2002 by John Mastro. The releases on Aeronaut are distributed by Redeye Distribution in North Carolina. Aeronaut Records has the distinction of having two faux French bands from New York City in its catalogue; Les Sans Culottes and Nous Non Plus. Aarticleentitled Nom de Guerre chronicled the discord in the former band and the formation of the latter band and was published in Slate (magazine) in Oct. 2005. In addition, Aeronaut has released the debut albums from artists such as Robert Francis, currently signed to Vanguard Records, Juliette Commagére, Daisy McCrackin, Golem, last on JDub, The Shys, and The Bangkok Five. Daisy McCrackin (born November 12, 1979) is an American actress. Early life McCrackin was born in Marin County, California, and raised in San Francisco. Career She made her film debut in the 2001 straight-to-video movie ''A Crack in the Floor'' co-starring Mario Lopez. A golem ( ; he, , gōlem) is an animated, anthropomorphic being in Jewish folklore, which is entirely created from inanimate matter (usually clay or mud). Joachim Cooder
Joachim Herbert Cooder (born August 23, 1978) is a drummer, percussionist, composer, and keyboardist best known for his collaborations with his father, Ry Cooder. Early life Cooder began to play drums at the age of 5, inspired by Jim Keltner. Cooder was brought on tours by his father from a young age, exposing him to prominent musicians. Career Cooder played on the Grammy Award winning albums ''A Meeting by the River'' (1993) and ''Buena Vista Social Club'' (1997). Juliette Commagere
Juliette Commagere is a Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter who was formerly the lead singer and keytar player of the band Hello Stranger. In 2008 she began a solo career with the release of ''Queens Die Proudly''. Commagere has also performed with Maynard James Keenan of Tool's project Puscifer, The Bird and the Bee, Nick Lowe, Ry Cooder, Linda Perry and Liz Phair. The Shys
The Shys were a five piece indie rock band from Southern California, Their line-up consisted of Kyle Krone, Chris Wulff, Riley Stephenson, and Ryan Hansen. Their debut CD, titled ''Astoria'', was released on Sire Records on July 11, 2006. Recordings The Shys' album ''You'll Never Understand This Band The Way That I Do'' was released on July 22, 2008, on local Echo Park Indie label Aeronaut Records. JDub
JDub Records was a non-profit record and event production company that produced Jewish music and cross cultural musical dialogue. JDub, unlike most record labels, derived half its annual income from foundations and individual donors and the other half from record and ticket sales. As a non-profit Jewish organization its stated mission was to "forge vibrant connections to Judaism through music, media and cultural events." JDub operations included an artists' fellowship program, overseeing the Jewcy website, event production and consulting. Along with the Foundation for Jewish Culture and Avoda Arts, JDub launched The Six Points Fellowship for Emerging Jewish Artists, an artist development program financed by $1 million from the Commission on Jewish Identity and Renewal of UJA-Federation. Golem (American Band)
Golem is a rock-klezmer band from New York City. They mix traditional Eastern European Jewish music with original material sung in Yiddish, English, Russian, as well as Ukrainian, French, Serbo-Croatian, and Romany. The group describes itself as "Where Eastern Europe Meets the Lower East Side" and uses avant-garde spectacle to both challenge and embrace the stylistic norms of klezmer music. Music Golem's music is both traditional and irreverent. Annette Ezekiel Kogan formed Golem in 2000. Before even putting the band together she contacted David Krakauer, who was then curating the weekly "Klezmer Brunch" at the downtown venue Tonic, and asked him for a gig. Vanguard Records
Vanguard Recording Society is an American record label set up in 1950 by brothers Maynard and Seymour Solomon in New York City. It was a primarily classical label at its peak in the 1950s and 1960s, but also has a catalogue of recordings by a number of pivotal jazz, folk, and blues musicians. The Bach Guild was a subsidiary label. The label was acquired by Concord Bicycle Music in April 2015. History The newly founded venture's first record was of J.S. Bach's 21st cantata, ''Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis'', BWV 21 ("I had much grief"), with Jonathan Sternberg conducting the tenor Hugues Cuénod and other soloists, chorus and orchestra. Robert Francis (musician)
Robert Francis (born September 25, 1987, in Los Angeles, California) is a multi-instrumentalist, Americana singer-songwriter. His debut full-length album, ''One By One'', was released in August 2007 by Aeronaut Records, gaining him notice for its "emotional darkness and musicality". His sound is distinguished by his "bright, gravelly baritone", often conveying the emotion of a more "hardened performer".
