Ady, Oregon
Ady is an unincorporated historic locale in Klamath County, Oregon, United States. History Ady takes its name from Abel and Leona Ady who operated the freight/passenger transfer station at Teeter's Landing on the Klamath River south of Midland, Oregon between about 1906 and 1909. In prior years, northbound freight and passengers bound for Klamath Falls and other eastern Oregon destinations left the Southern Pacific main line at Weed, California, using the McCloud Railway to transit the southern slopes of Mt. Shasta to Bartle, California. Bartle is some thirty miles east of the mountain and, at that time, the southern terminus of the Bartle Fast Freight Road used by Stage Coaches and Freight Wagons to reach Laird's Landing on the southwest shore of Lower Klamath Lake. Klamath County, Oregon
Klamath County ( ) is one of the 36 counties in the U.S. state of Oregon. As of the 2020 census, the population was 69,413. The county seat is Klamath Falls. The county was named for the Klamath, the tribe of Native Americans living in the area at the time the first European explorers entered the region. McCloud Railway
The McCloud Railway was a class III railroad operated around Mount Shasta, California. It began operations on July 1, 1992, when it took over operations from the McCloud River Railroad. The MCR was incorporated on April 21, 1992. The MCR provided both freight service as well as passenger excursion trains like the '' Shasta Sunset Dinner Train''. Freight traffic consisted of outbound lumber and forest products as well as diatomaceous earth. Approximately 3,000 carloads of freight (1996 estimate) were handled annually. The MCR interchanged with the Union Pacific (formerly Southern Pacific) at Mount Shasta, California, and the BNSF (formerly the Burlington Northern, née Great Northern Railway) at Lookout, California. On June 27, 2005, the railroad applied with the Surface Transportation Board to abandon all MCR track beyond east of McCloud. Klamath (steamboat)
''Klamath'' was the first and only vessel larger than a launch to operate on Lower Klamath Lake, which straddled the border between the U.S. states of Oregon and California. This vessel is chiefly known for having been hauled overland by rail from Lake Ewauna to Upper Klamath Lake. It was also one of only two licensed merchant vessels ever to operate on lower Klamath Lake. During 1905 to 1909, Klamath was an essential link in a transportation line to Klamath Falls which involved rail, stage coach, and steamer travel. The late arrival of railroads to the Klamath lakes region made riverine and lake transport more important to the area.
