The recall is an effort to limit ruination of the corporate image and limit liability for corporate negligence, which can cause significant legal costs. It can be difficult, if not impossible, to determine how costly can be releasing to the consumer a product that could endanger someone's life and the economic loss resulting from unwanted publicity. Sudan I
Sudan I (also commonly known as CI Solvent Yellow 14 and Solvent Orange R), is an organic compound, typically classified as an azo dye. It is an intensely orange-red solid that is added to colourise waxes, oils, petrol, solvents, and polishes. Sudan I has also been adopted for colouring various foodstuffs, especially curry powder and chili powder, although the use of Sudan I in foods is now banned in many countries, because Sudan I, Sudan III, and Sudan IV have been classified as category 3 carcinogens (not classifiable as to its carcinogenicity to humans) by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. Alison Tedstone MBE RNutr FAfN (born April 1961) is Chief Nutritionist (National Director of Diet, Obesity and Physical Activity) at Public Health England (PHE). Education Tedstone has a BSc and a PhD degree from the University of London, and conducted research into nutrition at the University of Oxford. Career From 2001 she was an academic at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. She joined the Food Standards Agency in 2001, becoming Head of Nutrition Science. In 2010 her role (along with colleagues working on nutrition policy in England) transferred to the Department of Health, and in turn to Public Health England when it was established in 2013.
