Adriana Breukink
Adriana Breukink (born 27 May 1957 in Rotterdam, died 6 October 2022) was a Dutch recorder maker and player from Enschede, Netherlands, who made Renaissance, baroque and modern instruments. Life and career Breukink was introduced to the recorder by an aunt when she was nine years old. She attended the Royal Conservatory of The Hague where she worked with Frans Brüggen and Ricardo Kanji. The recorder maker Fred Morgan offered classes at the Conservatory, and Breukink worked with him to make a Ganassi recorder. By the time she had completed her solo exam in 1980, she had decided to become an instrument maker. Breukink became a leader in the development of new recorders. In 1997, she developed a Ganassi-based recorder with a chin-controlled dynamic slide extension for Moeck. In an effort to develop a Renaissance style recorder for use by beginners she developed the Adri's Dream recorder in collaboration with Mollenhauer in 1999. Moeck
Moeck Musikinstrumente + Verlag is a leading German manufacturer of recorders and a music publisher. The company was founded in 1925 by ''Hermann Moeck'' (1896-1982) in Celle. In 1960 his son Hermann Alexander Moeck (1922-2010) took over the business. The current owner is ''Sabine Haase-Moeck''. The company produces recorders for beginners and handmade instruments for soloists. They began as a publisher in 1929/30 as part of the youth movement in Germany, later adding recorders manufactured by Markneukirchen, and began manufacturing their own instruments in 1949. Beginning in 1966, during the revival of early music, they worked with Friedrich von Huene to develop their Rottenburgh model line. Küng Blockflöten GmbH is a recorder making business in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. History Franz Küng (November 11, 1906 – 1983) started a music store and piano tuning business in 1933 after completing a piano maker apprenticeship in Germany and the Netherlands. He began working on recorders in 1938 due to a ban on imports of these instruments from Germany and began to manufacture them in the 1940s. His sons, Thomas and Andreas Küng, became involved in the firm in the 1960s, and were appointed his successors in 1974. Thomas' son Stefan became CEO in 2015. Fred Morgan (recorder Maker)
Frederick G. Morgan (8 April 1940 - 16 April 1999) was an Australian recorder maker. Life and career Morgan first played recorder at age 12 in the family's home in Mentone, Victoria, Australia. After studying commercial art at Melbourne Technical College in 1959, he went to work at the Pan Recorder factory where he became enamored with the recorder. The Frederick Morgan Recorder Consort performed between 1964 and 1969, often accompanied on keyboard by his first wife, Jan. He appeared in the Melbourne Bach Festival, with the Tudor Choristers and the Melbourne Chorale. With Carl Dolmetsch and the Paul McDermott String Quartet, he performed Bach's Fourth Brandenburg Concerto in 1966 at Wilson Hall, Melbourne University. He continued to perform into 1970s with his second wife Ann Murphy, a harpsichordist. He won a Churchill Fellowship to study Recorder Manufacture and Usage in Europe in 1970. Recorder (musical Instrument)
The recorder is a family of woodwind musical instruments in the group known as ''internal duct flutes'': flutes with a whistle mouthpiece, also known as fipple flutes. A recorder can be distinguished from other duct flutes by the presence of a thumb-hole for the upper hand and seven finger-holes: three for the upper hand and four for the lower. It is the most prominent duct flute in the western classical tradition. Recorders are made in various sizes with names and compasses roughly corresponding to various vocal ranges. Ricardo Kanji
Ricardo Kanji (born 1948 in São Paulo) is a Brazilian recorder player and luthier. For twelve years, he was a professor at the Royal Conservatory in the Hague. He is a member of the Orchestra of the 18th Century, and the choir and orchestra Vox Brasiliensis. Biography He began his musical studies with Tatiana Braunwieser, and later studied with Lavinia Viotti, who introduced him to the recorder. At fifteen he began studying flute with João Dias Carrasqueira and two years later joined the Philharmonic Orchestra São Paulo (now defunct) and the Municipal Symphony Orchestra of São Paulo . In 1966, after a period of study in the United States, he founded the group ''Musikantiga''. In 1969, he began to study flute at the Peabody Institute of Music in Baltimore. Franciscus ("Frans") Jozef Brüggen (30 October 1934 – 13 August 2014) was a Dutch Conducting, conductor, recorder player and baroque flautist. Biography Born in Amsterdam, Brüggen was the last of the nine children of August Brüggen, a textile factory owner, and his wife Johanna (née Verkley), an amateur singer. He studied recorder (musical instrument), recorder and flute at the Amsterdam Muzieklyceum. He also studied musicology at the University of Amsterdam. In 1955, at the age of 21, he was appointed professor at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague.
