Adolfo Bassi
Adolfo Bassi (Naples, 1775 – Trieste, 1855) was an Italian composer and operatic tenor. Trieste ( , ; sl, Trst ; german: Triest ) is a city and seaport in northeastern Italy. Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi
The Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi is an opera house located in Trieste, Italy and named after the composer Giuseppe Verdi. Privately constructed, it was inaugurated as the Teatro Nuovo to replace the smaller 800-seat "Cesareo Regio Teatro di San Pietro" on 21 April 1801 with a performance of Johann Simon Mayr's ''Ginevra di Scozia''. Initially, the Nuovo had 1,400 seats. In 1821, it became known as the Teatro Grande. By the end of the 18th century, the need for a new theatre in Trieste became evident. Its main theatre, the Teatro di San Pietro, had become increasingly inadequate and closed in 1800. A proposal to the Austrian Chancery from Giovanni Matteo Tommasini to build a private theatre had existed since 1795 and, in June 1798, a contract was drawn up whereby annual funding would come from the municipality and Tommasini would hold the rights to several boxes and the rights to sell others. Carolina Bassi
Carolina Bassi (10 January 1781 – 12 December 1862) was an Italians, Italian contralto who knew Rossini, Meyerbeer, Donizetti and Vincenzo Bellini , Bellini. Life Bassi was born in Naples to a musician family. Her brother Nicola, was a famous Bass (voice type), buffo bass; and another brother, Adolfo Bassi, Adolfo, who was a composer, operatic tenor and also an impresario of the Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi, Teatro Nuovo in Trieste. She retired in 1828, devoting herself to teaching opera singing. She died in Cremona in 1862. Family Bassi was married to Cremona's nobleman, Pietro Manna. They had a son, Ruggero Manna (1808–1864), a composer and Kapellmeister, Chapel Master of the Cathedral of Cremona from 1835 to 1864. Musical career Bassi was known as "La Napoletana", one of the noted singers of her era. She was the first interpreter of many works of her repertoire.
