Adolf Friedrich Harper
Adolf Friedrich Harper (born 17 October 1725, Berlin — d. 23 June 1806, Berlin) was a German landscape painter. Biography Adolf Friedrich Harper was born in Berlin on 17 October 1725 to the Swedish-born Prussian court painter Johann Harper. After his father's death, Harper visited France and Italy, where he studied landscape painting under Richard Wilson (painter), Richard Wilson. Harper first found employment in Württemberg in 1756. Three years later, he was made court painter to Duke Charles Eugene, Duke of Württemberg, Charles Eugene, who also made Harper the director of his State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart, Academy of Fine Arts at the Karlsschule Stuttgart, Karlsschule in 1761. In 1798, Harper retired from court and spent his last years in his hometown, Berlin. An "overdoor" (or "Supraporte" as in German, or "sopraporte" as in Italian) is a painting, bas-relief or decorative panel, generally in a horizontal format, that is set, typically within ornamental mouldings, over a door, or was originally intended for this purpose. The overdoor is usually architectural in form, but may take the form of a cartouche in Rococo settings, or it may be little more than a moulded shelf for the placement of ceramic vases, busts or curiosities. Christian Wilhelm Walter Wulff (; born 1959) is a retired German politician and lawyer who served as President of Germany from 2010 to 2012.
