Administrative Divisions Of Ghana
The administrative divisions of the Republic of Ghana consist of four geographic terrestrial plains and 16 regions. For local government, there are a total of 216 districts including 145 ordinary districts, 109 municipal districts, and six metropolitan districts. Various types of councils exist below the district level including 58 town or area councils, 108 zonal councils, and 626 area councils. At a smaller level of local administration, there are over 16,000 unit committees. Electorally, Ghana is divided into 275 constituencies. Koforidua
Koforidua, also popularly known as K-dua or Kofcity, is a city and the capital of Eastern Region in southern Ghana. Koforidua was founded in 1875 by migrants from Ashanti. It is also called New Juaben. The city has a settlement city proper population of 183,727 people as of 2010, Koforidua is an amalgamation of two Municipalities; New Juaben North and South. Upper West Region
The Upper West Region of Ghana is located in the north-western corner of Ghana and is bordered by Upper East region to the east, Northern region to the south, and Burkina Faso to the west and north. The Upper West regional capital and largest settlement is Wa. The Upper West was created by the then Head of State, Flight-Lieutenant Jerry Rawlings in 1983 under the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC) military regime. The area was carved out of the former Upper Region, which is now the Upper East Region. Bolgatanga
Bolgatanga ( Frafra: ''''), colloquially known as ''Bolga'', is a town and the capital of the Bolgatanga Municipal District and Upper East Region of Ghana, adjacent to the border with Burkina Faso. Bolgatanga has over 2012 settlement and a population of about 66,685 people. Bolgatanga is 161 km (about 100 miles) to the north of Tamale. Upper East Region
The Upper East Region is located in north Ghana and is the third smallest of the 16 administrative regions in Ghana. It occupies a total land surface of 8,842 square kilometers or 2.7 per cent of the total land area of Ghana. The Upper East regional capital is Bolgatanga, sometimes referred to as Bolga. Damongo
Damongo is a town and the capital of West Gonja Municipal, a municipal in the Savannah Region of northern Ghana. On 12 February 2019, Damongo was declared the capital of the newly created Savannah Region; With the coming into force of the Constitutional Instrument (CI) 105, which was signed into force by the President of the Republic of Ghana and presented to the Yagbonwura in Jubilee House Accra. Savannah Region
The Savannah Region is one of the newest regions of Ghana and yet the largest region in the country. The creation of the Region follows presentation of a petition by the Gonja Traditional Council, led by the Yagbonwura Tumtumba Boresa Jakpa I. Upon receiving favourable responses from all stakeholders in the Northern Region (the region it was broken off from), the Brobbey Commission (the Commission tasked with the creation of the new regions), a referendum was conducted on the 27th December 2018. The result was a resounding yes of 99.7%. The President of the Republic of Ghana signed and presented the Constitutional Instrument (CI) 115 to the Yagbonwura in the Jubilee House, Accra on 12 February 2019. Dambai
Dambai is a city in Ghana and the administrative capital of the newly created Oti Region. Geography Location Dambai is the capital of the Oti Region. It is located on the eastern side of the Oti River, a tributary of the Volta Lake. It was declared the capital of the region which was carved out of the existing Volta Region. It was given the Legislative Instruments as capital by President Nana Akuffo Addo on 15th of February 2019 after it was chosen to be the capital. Oti Region
The Oti Region is one of the six newly created regions of Ghana in December 2018. The region was carved out of the northern part of the Volta Region and will be in fulfillment of a campaign promise made by New Patriotic Party. Prior to the 2016 Ghanaian general election, the then candidate Nana Akufo-Addo declared that when elected, he would explore the possibility of creating new regions out of some of the existing regions in Ghana in order to bring government closer to citizens. Tamale (Dagbani : ), officially called Tamale Metropolitan Area is the capital city of the Northern Region of Ghana.
